Andrew, everyone in Newport is raving about your boards. How do you feel
about that?
It's pretty cool, I have always been in to designing boards and stuff so its cool to make
them and get feed back on them, and so far its been good feed back..
What inspired you to start shaping?
Well like I said I'm really in to board design and at the time I started i was having trouble
finding a good board from anyone so I was just like, fuck, I'm just gonna make my own!
They still look like shit but I'm having a lot of fun and every board seems to get a little
better...
How many boards have you shaped so far?
I have shaped 7, getting ready for my 8th... it's a lot of work, I don't have all the tools I
need, I have been hand shaping them out of a raw blank with a hand planer and some
sand paper, its a takes a good 5 or 6 hours.
Who have you shaped some for?
I shaped the first three for myself but I let everyone ride them as much as they want, and
the other four were made for Ford, Kyle, little shit grom Tyler Gunter, and this local gromy
Blake Booey.
Tell us about your very first board? Did it work out?
The first board is pretty funny, I acually shaped it with a kitchen knife and a cheese
grader! It's the most uneven board ever, but it acually works insane! Ford Archbold rides it everyday
and says its his favorite board, he might ride it in the Cold Water Classic.
What type of designs do you plan on shaping? Like are you going to make
some big wave boards for Hawaii this year?
I want to learn to make it all, at the moment I have been making a few short boards
and some little air board things. a gun would be fun to make, I just need the right blank.
Do your parents love the mess you're making in your backyard?
I'm filed for the death sentence from them.
What do you think about shapers that suck at surfing?
Well it's pretty strange, these days u got the computer machine that does 95 percent of the
work for you, like u can be a total kook and shape a perfect board if it's made threw the
computer, in my opinion nothings better than a hand shape.
Do you think this is a just a hobby for the moment, something you'll do
your whole life for fun or something you could get seriously into?
I think it could be something i do forever, but I got tons more to learn and I'm really exited
to see how my how it goes! its really cool, I can do and make whatever I want...
Last question, will you shape me a board?
No, I wouldn't be able find a big enough piece of foam to float your fat ass……jk, I'm
starting yours tomorrow.
