Take your pick!
Whatever You Think, Think the Opposite by Paul Arden
This book will turn your world upside down. Arden proposes risk taking, creativity and making bad decisions… advice that resonates with any free spirit. His words will inspire you to think differently and make changes by doing all the supposed wrong things. In one of our favorite passages Arden writes, “Risks are a measure of people. People who won’t take them are trying to preserve what they have. People who do take them often end up having more.” WE AGREE. Read it, risk it and go get it!
Just Kids by Patti Smith
In Just Kids, Patti Smith chronicles her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and their life in New York in the 1960s and 70s. Poetically written, this book pays homage to Smith’s humble beginnings as a bohemian artist living in the Chelsea Hotel. We love Smith’s honesty and the fact that her innocence is relatable to anyone young and starting a journey of their own.
A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
This is a tale of short stories that are comprised into what Egan says is a novel. The tales revolve around an aging Rock music executive and his onetime assistant in addition to various other colorful characters. The stories shift in time and location but all reflect the importance of time and how it becomes a prison for many of the characters. We love this book because it lets us reflect on the past while reminding to embrace the present!
Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen
Read this if you want to be entertained! We can’t even tell you the plot because there is not just one... there are about twenty. Same goes for the characters, which include a former Miami-Dade police detective and his new lover a county coroner, a Bahamian Voodoo witch, and a bad, bad monkey. This book is hilarious, clever and an adventure all wrapped in one.
