 |
| The 9th stop on the 2009 Wild in the Parks tour went down at Legacy Skatepark in Ottawa on Saturday, August 1st! |

| It only seems fitting for the nation’s capital brings together our crew from all over North America for the 4th annual WITP at Legacy Park in Ottawa. Ironically what ends up being one of, if not the best days of the summer we’ve seen thus far also brought out the biggest showing of talent we’ve seen yet in this neck of the woods. Every seasoned vet to hungry grom was reaching deep down into their bag of tricks to attack all three zones. As always, the heats ended up with a massive gathering around the infamous double set where no soul was afraid of being broke off to impress not only the judges, but the nearly 200 skate rats/spectators that were crowded around! |

 |
| The 14 & Under division shot out of the gates at high noon to get this party started. With several WITP veterans present, “zone 3” (hubba’s and handrails) was hit with on barrage of tricks including kickflip boardsides, smooth krooked grinds, and feeble/smith grind combinations. Moving over to zone 2 (slightly smaller hubba’s and handrails) more technicality ensued with frontboard shov’s, lipslides, and grind variations. Having solid scores in the first two zones the competitors chose to spend the last 5 min of their heat in zone 1 (7 stair double-set and hubba’s). With an impressive gallery of spectators amassed, it was time to go for broke. We saw clean kickflips, airwalks, and a perfect 360 flip by (#11 Name?) to cap off this extended session. |

| Following the grom slayers came the 15 and Over division with a fury. This division was a plethora of talent with shredders like Jamie and Andrew Bennet and Antoine Dronin showing their stuff. There was excitement in the air as on lookers watched as these boys threw down hammers like fakie 270 front board, kickflip front board, and a variation of board flipping down the double-set and hubba feature. These boys did a good job setting the tone for the coming madness! |

| The Pro-am Division attracted what looked like the largest number of spectators we’ve seen in the past four years of the wild in the parks in Ottawa. For good reason, Matt Klein was straight up putting on a show of proper switch flips, fakie flips, and a fakie double flip thrown in for good measure. It was jaw dropping to say the least. The double-set didn’t get a rest with Mike Van Rossel showing everyone how to do front side flips the right way. With the extended overtime, Darryl Galaraga took 3rd with his b/s big spin and Jonathan Dielarski in 2nd both had a good day but in the end it was Shayne Smart that had the glory of taking home first overall! |
