Devil is in the details 12-01-2016
I tried on Volcom snow pants at a local store so felt confident in ordering a similar style online. These have a great fabric feel and fit my curvy frame pretty well.
However, there are still several details I am wishing were different:
1) These are extremely long. For a large size, They are about 6 inches too long for my 5'5" frame (short legs, long torso). Most companies think large size = tall person so I was prepared for this.
2) Zip to Jacket feature : seems nice to prevent the horrid snow-down-the-backside but you would have to have a jacket that is compatible. I have a 2015/16 Volcom women's coat that doesn't have the zipper to match - so which style works with this exactly?
3) The vents on the inside of the thighs are poorly constructed. They put a decent sized zipper pull on each vent. The direction of the zipper goes UP and they end at the top of the inner thigh. That means any female who doesn't have a "thigh gap" would have the zipper pulls rub together. I know over time they will break. For comparison, I took out my very old snow pants from another popular brand and the zippers pulled toward the knees with the pull tab sitting by your knees and not your inner thighs. An interesting detail Volcom hasn't figured out yet. Never had this problem before and have been snowboarding for almost two decades. Volcom, please change the direction of the thigh zipper vent!
I still gave three stars as I like the fabric and the feel. The stretch is nice and I'm hopeful that the 15k waterproof holds up for the price. Here's to hoping!
Great Snowboard Pants! 10-19-2016
I got the purple color in a size xs (i'm 5'5" and 112 lbs) - they leave a little room in case I want to put long underwear on underneath. Otherwise, they fit great! Really like the color and excited to put them to use!
