VOLCOM STONES TOTALLY CRUSTACEOUS TOUR EUROPE 2004THE KARRAMARRO FISHPLAYA DE LA SALVAJE3rd AND 4th JULYEUSKADI
Salvaje beach which means wild in Basque (nude beach too) was the venue for THE KARRAMARRO FISH which was held on the 3rd and 4th of July. The conditions were big the first day which forced a late start because conditions were quite heavy for the grom and Junior divisions. With outside sets around the 6-8 feet range we started the event with groms playing on the inside reforms. The finals were completed on Sunday with smaller conditions.
The groms division had more girls entered than any previous VQS contest in Europe with a total of six girls, with Paula Roberts rounding out the final in fourth place. Paula only caught one wave and spent the rest of the heat trying to catch a couple more. In third place was Carlos Miguel who was lucky enough to link a few on the lefts to finish behind Javier Cabo who had to settle for 2nd with Javi Murilio taking the best waves and the gold brick home for first place?
The juniors were all over the lefts for their final with Nicola Susateta pushing his tail and carving into first place.Iker Markez wasn’t far behind in second with some nice ones. Followed by Eukeni Masa and Mikel Olabarry in third and fourth.
The Pro Am made the best of the big conditions on the Saturday with the semi’s being very close. By the time the final was on the wind had come up and the tide was a low. They made the most of their time with the conditions and in the end it was the teacher from the Salvaje Surf School Patu finishing in forth with Jon Herrera in third. Txonan Paz had the highest scoring wave of the final and was looking good for the title until he creased his board and had to run up the beach to grab another. He ran out of time and settle for second with Borjadel Saz taking the win with a smile.
The Best trick was taken out by Jon Amiano with a nice Air.
The presentation was held after the opening of the Savaje Surf School and then followed the Basque premiere of Chichagof with locals Alain Gokoetxea and Norberto Mena present and their friend Javier Sarmiento as well.
