VQS Europe 2004 The Rumble Fish July 13th -14th Praia Do Amando Algarve, Portugal
The Rumble Fish is the only contest in the VQS European tour that is held during the week. The event was held on Wednesday and Thursday so that it wasn’t to clash with the WQS event on the weekend. Wednesday was for the groms and the juniors and was started with nice two feet swell that improved through out the day with a nice left rip bowl on offer for all the competitors.
In the grom division the final was held in the best conditions of the day so far with the left rip bowl been ripped apart by all finalists. In the end Nicolau Von Rupp was too strong on his front side and was holding the amazing glass trophy for the presentation to take first, followed by Alex Botelho in second throwing his new weight around with some solid backside snaps. Third was Pedro Pinto and rounding out the forth place was little French grom Paul Brillet.
The juniors were fired up after watching the groms on fire and were happy that it was their time to hit the waves. Miguel Mouzinhos used his local knowledge and frizzy hair and front side attack to hold his own glass trophy for first place. In second was Tomas Valente with some nice solid moves chased by Ivan Barilote in third and Thimote Belime fourth.
The Pro-Am were fired up on Sunday after watching the groms and juniors surf all day Saturday. First up in the finals and out in front was Gony Zubizarreta who held his lead just enough to take the honors in front of Aécio Flavio Who placed first in their Semi. In third was Joao Alexandre who was very impressive through out the day with smooth lines and style with nice tailslides.Jaji Iglesias surfed strong but couldn’t find the right waves to finish in fourth.
Bizuka stole the best trick with a very nice front side air with pop and style.
