The final event of The Greatwhite Surf Series went down on February 3rd, 2007 at The Lane on the Westside of Santa Cruz. The surf in the morning was 4-6 feet and side offshore, as the day marched on the tide dropped and the ocean turned to oil like glass, the sun shined the surf just kept pumping, it was an epic day at the lane. Every heat was full and the event was maxed out with hungry competitors trying to gain valuble VQS points and bragging rights which will last into next season.



In the Girls division the competitive level continues to rise and The Lane was no different with Kim Meyer and Diana Mattison battling it out till the end. The final came down to the wire and then Kim Meyer caught a bomb in the last few minutes to win the event. Lexi Vanderlieth, Savanah Shaughnessy, Lexi Wilson, and Carlene Daniels rounded out the final.

Randy "The Kid" Bonds

The Groms are gnarly!! They came in from the pounding surf red faced and out of breath after a hard fought heat. John Wilson, Shaun Burns, and Tory Robinson battled it out the entire length of the final, and as the heat wound down John Wilson would claim his first ever Greatwhite victory. John walked away with a ton of prizes and a cool trophy for his efforts. Bjorn Temple, Tyler Morrish, and Noah Wegrich finished in that order.



Juniors take things seriously and fight it out to the end every time. The ever present Kyle Thierman and Patrick Shaughnessy are no strangers to the Greatwhite finals and are tough to beat. Nick Alheit was on and would take the Juniors victory home and earn a grip of points toward the VQS Champs. Dylan McCarthy, Colin Dwyer, and Dane Anderson put in impressive performances and would finish in that order.


The Pro-Am division in Santa Cruz is heavy and the most competitive you'll see anywhere. Jason Collins showed up on fire after his win just weeks ago at The Point ready to do damage but he would come up short to the smooth, stylish backhand of Randy "The Kid" Bonds. Randy Bonds took the final with Stephan Wolizctko finishing in a close second. Young Matt Meyers is a new comer to this divisionand has been a continued threat finishing in third for the day. Heavy hitters Bud Frietas and Anthony Ruffo made it an all star final.
