The Second stop of the Seaslug Surf Series took place at Hermosa Beach Pier on December 9, 2006. A huge north swell came in the night before the event and made for some very interesting conditions the next morning with over head closeout barrels slaming the beach. Threwout the day the swell grew bigger and bigger and the Groms were shaking in there boots as they battled it out at the pier. Here is how it all went down.

When the Girls final started the tide dropped out and the barrels got wider. Local girl Natalie Anzivino looked tuff to beat in her first round heat and Erica Hosseini was close behind. The final was pretty much a one woman race as Jenny Quam was able to get the only waves with short corners on them. All she needed here was one good wave to take the Girls first place prize and frosty the snow man trophy home with her. Chelsea Rauhut, Kathryn Ogata, Erica Hosseini, Natalie Anzivino, and Lisa Tuttle completed the final.

The Groms with the biggest set of jingle balls made their way out to the line up for the final. Dayton Silva already broke his board in the first heat of the day and barrowed another to make the final. The small stature of Hunter Johnson was not intimidated at all during the final, as the waves were at least three times his size. He had a good showing, but ended up in the third place spot. It was Dayton Silva who found the right waves and earned him self the win with a remote controlled jet fighter, Sector 9 skate deck, Vestal watch, and a Santa’s little bag of goods home.

The reindeer slide jump kept the Juniors occupied all day, but in the final it was all business. Big open pits graced the Juniors final. These kids will be picking sand out of their ears into the New Year. Kyle Jax and Dustin Willman had some good waves in the beginning but it was the wave selection that put Ambrose Tarantino in control of the heat. Ambrose had the right combo of waves and grabbed a Zoo York skate deck and Volcom backpack of goods and split. Steven Hempel, Reno Nascimento, and Cameron Brown rounded out the final.
It was then time for the five hundred dollar round to go down, as the Pro-Am’s charged the water. Michael Bailey and Marcelo Malinco killed their earlier heats in the day, but but came up empy handed for the win. Chad Compton and Yves Bright usually dominate in the Seaslug finals, but it was Justin Swartz delivering the presents. Santa Clause came early and gave the winner, Justin Swartz, a jolly $500 and the first place holiday trophy.
