Cooterfish Surf Series
Wrightsville Beach, NC

Thank you Mother Nature! She held us back for two attempts and finally gave us some contestable surf this past weekend in the wonderful town of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. We awoke to overcast conditions, but as the morning progressed the sun broke through the clouds and lit up the 2-3 ft clean peaks. The kids signed up early and we got under way. Here is a rundown of the day’s events.



In the Groms Division more than points and local pride were on the line. The top finisher of the day was set to receive the Special Edition Rockband video game. You could see the kids frothing as they awaited the announcement of the winner. Taking the win as well as a backpack filled with all kinds of goods from all of our product sponsors was local ripper Mason Barns. Mason edged out Drew Dalton, Conner Lester, Shane Burnes, Zach Blanton and Zack Bland for the win and some valuable points towards the champs.



The Juniors division was on fire with a closely fought battle between Jonathan Mincher and Evan Barton. Both were shredding the gnarr for the entire event, but in the end Jonathan edged out Evan for the win. Rounding out the rest of the final were Dalton Gillie, Chase Evans, Gus Bird, and Thomas Hanns. Make sure to check out the ratings to see where you stand. Remember that the top 5 from your division will get the invites to the 2007/2008 VQS Champs in May. The last stop of the Cooterfish will be held March 22nd in Ocean City, MD. See you there and good job dudes.



The Girls division came up lucky this time around with each girl that entered going strait to the Final. With only four girls signed up they had to wait around all day for their heat. I’m sure they were kept entertained by the craziness that went on just about all day long. Craziness or not, the girls kept a bit of focus on their surfing and it showed throughout the Final. Taking the win surfing very well was Darsha Pigford. Darsha beat out Heidi Richardson, Kristen Kornegay and Liz Hauser. Thanks for being apart of the Cooterfish event and we will see you next year’s ladies!



Last but not least the Bro-Am. I mean Pro-Am division. With $500.00 bucks on the line as well as points towards the Champs event the Pro-Am division was the most entertaining final of the day. The tide had backed out which made for tricky conditions, but that didn’t stop anyone in the final from finding plenty of room to move. Taking the top honors this year was Michael Powell. Michael beat out the rest of the pack with a couple nicely linked maneuvers. He was ripping and won, now he has a nice wad of cash in his pocket and his mind on the VQS Champs. Mike as I like to call him (only cause it’s shorter) beat out Rob Cordero, Cody Leutgens, Ross Stevens, Eric Schub and Sterling Sword. See you in Maryland!
