Wow! That's all I can say about the waves on Sunday at the Cooterfish event at Kill Devil Hills, NC. Mind surfing was just about at an all time high and so was the action in the water. It seemed that every couple minutes someone or something was getting spit out of the tube. We had 96 competitors that showed up and stuck around all day feasting on what Hurricane Kyle had spun off towards the Outer Banks. Here are some photos, video and a run down of the days events. Let's start off with the ladies. As always we are happy to see as many girls enter these events as possible and with the conditions we had more than expected. Charging her way to the top spot and leaving everyone else in combo land was Jasset Umbel. Jasset is no stranger to the VQS and I hope to see her in the Champs at the end of the season. Taking second place Michelle Ketten while the third spot when to last weekends Wrightsville event winner Chelsea Gresham. Looks like Chelsea has qualified for the champs!! Rounding out the rest of the final was Brittany Tucker, Bree Kleintop and Kali Park. Good Job Ladies!!



It's only event number two and we have already decided our over all points leader champion for the season in the Groms and the Juniors divisions. Both Cam and Cole Richards swept both events in Wrightsville Beach and KDH. They will both collected their invites to the Champs. Congrats kids!!



So as I already mentioned Cam Richards has taken the top spot in the Groms division for the second event in a row. The last time we had a grom do this was Balaram Stack winning six events in a row. Let's see you top that one Cam. If you do i'll give you an extra $100 at the end of sixth event. Come runner up in the Groms was Dylan Kowalski. Dylan had the chance to win but caught a rail on what would have been the best wave of the final. Dylan scooped up the second place points and a ton of prizes to fill up his vehicle with. Third place went to Julian Payne. Julian flat out rips, watch out for this kid. Rounding out the rest of the final was Mason Barns, Weston Williams and Morgan Taylor Level. Good Job Groms!



The Juniors division was once again taken down by Cole Richards. Cole has been on fire! Taking the second spot for the second week in a row and also earning his spot at number two in the over all ratings was Evan Barton. So close Evan, you will have your chance at the Champs. Taking third was our recently crowned ESA Juniors Champ Nick Rupp. During the Pro-Am final Nick got one in to the contest area that would have won him the Cash. But he will have to settle for third place and also a trip to Maryland in March for the last Cooterfish event in hopes to qualify for the champs. Rounding out the rest was Shane Burn, Nathan Brake and Erik Kirby.



Last of all, the Pro-Am. Eight years ago before I started running VQS events I surfed in them. One of the best ones that I can remember was at 5th Street in 2000. I was so close to winning but some local guy named Billy Hume put a stop to it. Well he did it again. Billy Hume took out a very talent rich final with a couple of tube rides. Billy went home with $500 bucks cash, a Riviera complete skateboard and back pack full of prizes including Skull Candy, Speck, Vestal and many many more. Taking second place was Cali Rally surviver Michael Dunphy. In third place was Mike Powell who earned himself the Electric Volt Thrower move of the day. Jeff Myers, Travis Ajay and Slater Powell finished out the final. Good Job dudes!!
