Volcom Stone's Seacow Surf Series Mayport Poles, Jacksonville, Florida

This past weekend the Seacow Surf Series got under way with the first event of the season. Old man winter decided to show up giving us some pretty challenging conditions. With the air temp not getting over 50 degrees and 25 MPH onshore conditions we had our work cut out for us. Despite the weather conditions we had waves and a healthy crop of competitors on the beach ready to sign up at the crack of dawn. Put your long johns on, here we go!

The Groms have always helped keep us entertained during our events but this time they went above and beyond. Eating handfuls of sand, drinking mustard, and winning the Groms division was hometown super grommet Tristan Thompson. Tristan linked his turns together looking just like his older brethren all while covered in shaving cream and other fun liquid substances. Taking second place was Ryan Croteau. Ryan surfed clean and mean beating out Jonathon Heater and Nathan Behl. Taking fifth was Ryan's brother Justin Croteau while Alan Massey finished up in sixth.

While Tristan Thompson was on the beach eating sand while his older brother Evan was out in the Juniors final totally shredding. Evan took top honors as well as an early lead in the point's race towards the 2008/2009 VQS Champs. Following close behind Evan taking the runner up position was Keto Burns. John Massey, Zach Weinert, Cody McGill and Kevin Cox rounded out the rest of the Final. Good Job Kids!

Girls don't eat sand. They are much to wise and classy for that, but I did see Amy Nicol beat the crap out of a couple lips. Once she was done she walked away with a custom trophy, Riviera complete skateboard, huge bag full of goodies, as well as the points lead heading into the next event. Taking the second spot, after a long drive up from central Florida was Jassett Umbell. Jassett beat out Mallory Turner, Danielle Marvin, Jessie Carnes and Chelsea Gresham. Thanks for playing ladies!

On to the Pro-Am. This was an extremely packed final. With names like Ryan Briggs and Justin Jones falling short of the final you would think that would have made it a bit easier to take the top spot. That was not the case. Running away with the top honors, $500.00 cash and the points lead was Daytona Beaches, Jessie Hielman. Jessie had his hands full with Alek Parker, Kyle Garson, King Of The Peak winner Cody Thompson as well as Blake Jones all nipping at his heals. Asher Nolan who has been on an absolute tear this year was finally put to a stop by Mr Hielman!

Extra special thanks to Monster for providing a kick ass lunch from Taco Lu in Jax Beach for all the competitors!
