Volcom Stones Goldfish Surf Series The Rock, Morro Bay

What a crazy weekend! Volcom’s newest surf film BS! has been on a ragging West Coast premiere tour this last week, which finished off Friday night in San Luis Obispo at One Way Boardshop. Groms were getting crazy for free stuff before the movie started by devouring banana splits and complimentary bald spots shaved in their heads by team rider Andrew Doheny. It turned out to be a kick ass night which just seemed to fuel the fire for the Goldfish event the following day.
The Rock has to be one of the rootiests contest to have in the summertime, you get all walks of life that seam to congregate to this location and you can never be let down with the constant spectical from shark sightings to people trying to summit the 567 ft rock. Saturday turned out over a hundred fired competitors for a day of shredding. Here are some highlights from Saturdays event.

The Groms rolled up showing off there freshly shaved bald spots from the night before and were ready to get down to business with there new aerodynamic hair cuts. The finals kicked off with Nic Hdez and Parker Coffin exchanging blows from the start and never let up. Little Parker favored a peak to the North and it worked to his advantage as he edged out Nic for the Win, a Electric Guitar, Riviera Skate and a heap of other goodies. Vinny Leonelli, Mickey Clark, Keary Kennedy, and Chaz Elliott rounded out the Grom final.

In the Girls division it was Demi Boelsterli looking solid all day with her free surfing exhibition down the beach, but as the horn blasted to start the heat Jamie Hannula struck first like a Portuguese Man-o-war on a helpless tourist floundering in the ocean. Her attack ended up victorious as she walked away with a heap of prizes which included Vestal watch, Riviera Skateboard and a back pack loaded with other goodies. Rachel Harris, Amy Covert, Alex Ross and Kaitlyn Talin rounded out the final.

In the Juniors final, Shaun Burns and John Wilson looked tougt to beat, but Conner Coffin carried his moment throughout earlier heats and never looked back. He claimed the victory along with a 1000 points towards qualifying for the 2010 VQS Champs. Rounding our the final was, Christian Ramirez, Taylor Curren and Matty Parker.

The Pro-Am final was neck and neck the whole time between all 6 competitors. The lead must of changed like 8 times and it was a toss up till the end. Michel Flores shredded his way to grabbing the Electric Volt Thrower move of the event and $50 in the final. However, as the heat wound down it was Kilian Garland that surpassed the rest with his quick explosive small wave surfing. He pickup up $500 cash for the win along with a grip of prizes to go with it. Rounding out the final was Blake Howard, Michele Flores, Matt King, Walt Cerney and Dustin Ray.
