TODD BRATRUD ARTSHOW GOES GANGBUSTERS IN SYDNEY

SYDNEY TURNS ON THE LOVE FOR THE MAN WITH THE LIZARD LADIES

When Todd Bratrud and Devon Green arrived in Darlinghurst for their Pin-Up Series Artshow the entire length of Oxford St was already a teaming, glittery, sequin-covered boiling pot of naked manflesh. And while the Pet Shop Boys dancers and feather boa-wearing cowboys weren’t in town to scope the Veeco lads creative endeavors (the Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras was on the following night) plenty of other revellers made their way to the ultra chic Ruby Rabbit for a night of free booze, banging sounds and outrageous eye candy courtesy of Volcom Stone.

Bratrud’s pink bikini wearing lizard ladies certainly got the blood boiling early and within 10 minutes of the front doors being kicked in (so patrons could rip into the bar tab), most of his paintings were sold and free t-shirts gone. Devon also moved plenty of work, a pregnant goat lady snapped up by none other than Oscar Wright. “I bought it cause my lady is pregnant,” said Oz. “And I liked it.”

As the night wore on and the already loud Aussie crowd got louder, musical mayhem was unleashed in the form of sexy Melbourne band The Gingers. The dancefloor was soon just a pile of sweaty bodies throwing horned fists to the ceiling and couples pashing-on like thirsty greyhounds going beserk on a dish of warm milk.

The Volcom Skate Team arrived fresh from the World Cup with Dollin, Duncombe, Azar, Darrell S and others all making their presence known despite a lack of sleep from Lewy Marnell’s big Skater of the Year win the night before. Teen sensation Ryan Sheckler had his fair share of eyes leering from all corners of the room though was more interested in dirty picture texts on Azar’s cell.

The night wrapped up with a dirty ear-reaming set from the disgustingly awesome Goons of Doom. Women ripped clothes clothes from their bodies. Men wept openly. A dog barked in the distance. Can these boys do no wrong?

To say Sydney’s finest ladies were on hand would be a massive understatement. Seeing as though most of them work at Volcom Oz HQ it’s little wonder half the staff in the US office are always trying to get a trip downunder.

“As far as art shows go, it was probably one of the messiest I’ve seen,” said Bratrud as they swept the comatose body of Steve Stratton past his feet and out the door at the end of the night. “It was a lot of fun.”
