With three of our favorite Volcom family bands all on tour together we couldn't miss the opportunity to have our resident photog Gary Copeland accompany us last night to document the live spectacle as the tour rolled into Los Angeles at Club Noki on the fourth night of this insane North American tour.

"To walk down a street in Soho and see my billboard on a brickwall is amazing and all because I surf" - Quincy Davis Check out a glimpse of Montauk in Fall.

Great Scott! Volcom's Greatwhite Event Hits The Lane!

One thing has come to be constant at The Lane for the Volcom TCT events, the surf is always there with bells on. This past weekend in Santa Cruz for the last stop of the Greatwhite Series was no different than the previous trip. The surf was pumping all day, and the competitors took full advantage of the gift from Mother Ocean. Aesthetically pleasing to say the least. The Lane has plenty of eye candy. We showed up dark and early on a chilly Saturday morning and started to unload the truck and get the event site set up before the sunrise, with the help of a grip of frothing competitors ready to get the battle going.  There is always a lot of talent in the Greatwhite Series and we were eager to see what the Groms had up there sleeves that day. They did not disappoint. With a dropping tide all day the level of surfing just continued to rise as the surf continued to improve. Up, up, and away. Sam Coffey in controlled flight. Couple of Squids about to take the plunge. Top to bottom. Take notes kids, Johnny Gunn, teaching class. Happy people, colorful backdrop. Free surfers getting a lesson in "This is how it's done." Like we said, eye candy for days. The Lane offers many different spectator viewpoints. The cliffs are getting a particularly special view of this one. Progressive maneuvers killed the power game, we think not. We had to move into our usual daylight savings time double beach format and the competitors took full advantage of the slot and center peak, battling and advancing into the later rounds where the surfing just seemed to improve all day. When it was all said and done we had another back to back winning performance and a sweep of the Greatwhite series by Willie Eagleton in the Pro-Am. Willie is a local Grom in Santa Cruz and you can easily tell he surfs these waves regularly. Following up behind him was Tyler Gunter making the long drive up from OC to snag the juniors title with solid surfing all day. Riaru Ito had a great showing at The Lane and took home his second win in a row in the Groms division, with Jack Conti owning everyones favorite Squid divison, and the very talented Ashley Held talking home the title for the Girls. And to the victors go the spoils. Tyler Gunter in winning form all day. Who won?? Who won!!?? Come on tell us! Winner winner chicken dinner. Back to back winner Willie Eagleton straight up and in the money. Sparkling grape juice, acceptable substitute for a shower. Izaiah Hansen Style for miles. Squids Winners! Your Greatwhite winners! We had a blast in Santa Cruz this year for the Greatwhite series and a huge thank you to all the competitors and families that came out to support their groms and the Volcom TCT!! As always a special thanks to our sponsors that make this all possible, Volcom, New Era Cap Co., Rev’d Bars, Surfing Magazine, and especially Trevor from Penny Skateboards for making the trek up with us and hanging out running games with the Groms all day putting countless smiles on countless faces!
