Peanut Butter And Rail Jam - Mountain Creek, NJ 2015
Stop #7 of Volcom Stone’s Peanut Butter and Rail Jam took center stage in the Garden State at Mountain Creek, NJ, Saturday February 21, 2015. The contest site was surrounded by competitors and PBRJ enthusiasts the entire day. The East Coast has been pounded with historic amounts of snow this season.  This snow has allowed the region’s rippers a chance to ride some features that others have only been able to say “what if.”  With the spirit of shred at an all time high, the Mountain Creek Park Crew tossed out the rulebooks and created a solid PBRJ site that kept riders on their toes.  The crew dropped in a flat down rail to drop rail in zone 1, a meticulously sculpted triangle cheese wedge, with creeper snow ledges to corrugated tube in zone 2, and got kinky with an elevated elbow tube in zone 3.  These solid features left it up to the rider to figure out what the judges would like as creativity and style proved to be king. Justin Kipilla spinning like a top with a bs 360 50-50 bs 360 out on the elevated elbow tube in zone 3 Joey Leon kept his heels up on this gap past the snow ledge to fs boardslide in zone 2. There were more than a few that felt the wrath of the corrugated tube hooking their edge and sending them to the snow. Connecticut's Will Healy came out to the Peanut Butter and Rail Jam for the first time to throw down in all 3 zones. Here he gets onto a fs boardslide early and finishes strong as he exits to fakie in zone 1. His overall style and control captured the win in the 15 & Under Division. Travis Henderson borrowed a groomer's rake to make this pole jam up the cheese wedge. After a few very entertaining slams into the wall he somehow linked it all together to be awarded $50 and a pair of Electric shades for the "Gooyest Move of the Event". Travis's energy was top notch as he captured 3rd place in the 16 - 21 Division. Jake Colman puts down a toe jammed 50-50 bs 270 to fakie in zone 2. His mixture of high speed gap tricks and technicality throughout the day earned him 2nd place in the 16 - 21 Division. Nick Nolan knows how to keep his snowboarding act tight. Here he spins a fs 360 out of a half cab 50-50 through the elbow tube in zone 3. He also landed a notable blunslide gap to drop rail sw 50-50 180 out on in zone 1. Needless to say, Nick slid away with 1st place in the 16 - 21 Division. Allison Freeswick is one tough cookie. She dislocated her shoulder trying to land this method gap 50-50 in zone 1 only to pop it back into place and stomp her trick down a few tries later. She definitely payed her dues to receive $100 and the Rev'd Rider award at Mountain Creek. Alexa Cerra has been competing in the PBRJs since she was 7 years old. The PBRJ veteran was the only girl that sent it to the top of the wedge in zone 2 with this stylish layback 50-50. Lauren Broomall sits conformably on her front foot as she switch boardslides through the elbow tube in zone 3. She rocked out numerous tricks in her heat to solidify 1st place in the Girls Division. Jake Fouriner was so excited and surprised by the amount of PB&J that his hair turned green. Josh Salvatore earns one of our favorite photos of the day with this noseblunt across the top edge of the cheese wedge transfer 50-50 as the snow blasts down. No need for goggles on this one, a baseball cap will do just fine. Chad Strother locked and loaded on this sw lipslide 270 out in zone 3 Minnesota's Chris Eck has been to 3 PBRJ stops this year and has ridden really well at all three. His passion and determination to capture a PBRJ Championships invite pays off as he earned 2nd place with tricks like this gap hw 270 bs lip in zone 1. Mountain Creek local wild man Kevin Kaczynski puts down a sw lipslide 270 out as he points out the camera man midway trough striking a pose before the ride away. Check out the video for verification. Jon Koch checks the flex on this massive gap to drop rail boardslide in zone 1. He and his bib overalls did some serious work throughout the day as he took home Open/AM Division 1st place and a proper round of applause from everyone at awards. We would like to thank Gina Perrelli from the Mountain Creek marketing department for her help in facilitating the PBRJ event. Thank you to Marc Tremain and the MC Park Crew for all their hard work on the conceptualizing and building of a creative contest site.  Thanks to Alex Huang, Chris Szczypala, and Steve Rosal for etching down scores throughout the day.  Thanks to Austin White and Val Jordan for supporting the crew and keeping the ship tight.  Lastly, a huge thank you to our tour sponsors for kicking in the extra stoke for the entire tour.
