Wild In The Parks - St. Cloud Skate Plaza, MN 2014

Stop #6 of Volcom Stone’s Wild In The Parks delivered some hard knocks to the Granite City of St. Cloud Minnesota and their Skate Plaza Saturday July 19, 2014. The St. Cloud Skate Plaza was built on the premise of delivering a massive concrete platform for the youth of central MN to call home. Anyone that has had the opportunity to skate here has seen that it’s locals skate sun up to sun down each and everyday. This has lead to an explosion of new faces on the scene that are now battling the neighboring Metro area skaters for the top spots in the Midwest. The 14 & Under Division was first to take over the plaza just before the crack of 12:00 pm. These next generation rippers live in the now, not holding back for anything or anyone. Within the first opening moments of their heat we saw a nollie bs kickflip past the rock gap in zone 3, a proper kickflip to flat from the kicker in zone 2, and a super good 270 shuv-it lipslide to fakie down the double set rail in zone 1. Evan Schmitt was handling business all over the park, but notably he was working on a sizable hardflip to flat in zone 2 that had everyone crossing their fingers. Within the last 5 seconds of the heat Evan pushed through the wind to stomp his hardflip electrifying the crowd on hand and pushing him into the top spot. Ty Stigney followed his own path as he landed a body varial past the zone 1 double set, 360 flipped the rock gap in zone 3, and handled a bs bigspin to flat in zone 2 for 2nd place. Henry Gartland always puts together a solid performance with tricks like his impossible flip to flat in zone 2, kickflip over the rail and into the bank in zone 3, and a solid bs 180 nosegrind on the round rail in zone 1 capping off the top 3 in his division. 12-Year-Old Sean Robertson Sending A Kickflip Into The Flat From The Kicker In Zone 2 Henry Gartland Locks In A Bs 180 Nosegrind Down The Double Set Rail In Zone 1 Even Schmitt Caught And Landed This Hardflip To The Deep Flat In Zone 2 In The Last 5 Seconds Of The Finals The 15 - 21 Division had some heavy hitters ready to take over putting together a show for the mass of spectators on hand.  The guys really heated things up in all zones with tricks like a smith grind kickflip out on the flat ledge in zone 2, a backside 180 up the rock gap in zone 3, and a fs hurricane to regular down the double set rail in zone 1 to name a few.  Ryan LaRue had a solid game plan and stuck to it throughout his heat.  He landed a kickflip fs 5-0 on the flat ledge in zone 2, a hardflip bs 50-50 on the down hubba in zone 3, and a 360 flip lipslide on the double set rail in zone 1 to capture 1st place.  Jesse Johnson rattled off his own rendition of tricks like a high speed fs noseblunt on the flat ledge in zone 2, a 360 flip over the rock gap in zone 3, and a squared up kickflip bs lipslide down the rail in zone 1 for 2nd place honors.  Jake Braun had the jitters going into final only to shake the cobwebs off and turn it up to awesome.  He put down a fs kickflip over the rock gap in zone 3, a hardflip to flat in zone 2, and a solid bs bigspin fs boardslide down the rail in zone 1 to round out the top 3 in the division. Brad Hay Fully Locked Into This Bs Tailslide...And Threw A Bs Big Spin Out For Good Measure Jake Braun Floats A Nice Fs Kickflip Down The Rock Gap In Zone 3 Ryan LaRue Gathering A 360 Flip To Lipslide Down The Zone 1 Double Set Our BBQ Specialist, Emmet Klocker, Handing Out Some Signature WITP Style Hotdogs For A Long Line Of Hungry Competitors These 10 & Under Dudes Where Hyped To Get Their Turn As They Showed Off For The Crowd During Lunch The Open Division was now ready to put an exclamation point on the day and send it into overdrive.  There was no shortage of bangers throughout the entire division with the top spots up for grabs.  We saw a tail slapping bs bigger flip down the double set in zone 1, a massive ollie over the kicker to the flat in zone 2, and a bs kickflip over the rail in zone 3 and that was just a drop in the bucket.  Jonathan Reese was rousted out of his bed in the morning barely awake to jump in the car and get to the STC WITP.  It was a good thing that he made it because he absolutely destroyed finals.  He put down a kickflip fs boardslide shuv out down the rail in zone 1, fs feeble to fs 180 out on the rail in zone 3, and one of the biggest hardflips to flat in zone 2 right over the bolts capturing 1st place.  Corey Millett took himself and his mustache up to the top 3 by doing things like a shut down nollie heelflip bs lipslide on the rail in zone 1 to take 2nd place honors.  Tanner Van Vark continued his rein of top 3 honors with tricks like his high speed bs smith bs 180 out into the bank in zone 2 and his show stopping bs 180 fakie 5-0 to regular in zone 3 to end the day in 3rd place. Timmy Johnson Blasting A Mach 1 Switch Heelflip In Zone 3 David Nelson Gets A Rad Bs 50-50 Up The Zone 3 Hubba Shalom Larson Popping A Crisp Kickflip Fs Tailslide On The Zone 2 Flat Ledge Malik Jones Getting This Bs Bigger Kickflip In Zone 1 To Receive The Rev'd Skater Award That Comes With A Cool $100 Tanner Van Vark Handled This Bs 180 Sw Overkrook Bringing Back To Regular In Zone 3 Within 3 Attempts Corey Millett Shut Down The Event With This Nollie Heelflip Bs Lipslide In Zone 1 Jonathan Reese Started With A Front Board And Ended With A Hurricane We would like to thank Steve Krueger and everyone from the St. Cloud Parks and Rec department for having the WITP tour back to the St. Cloud area.  Thank you to Cory Schneider, Danny Nyren, and Jason Cole for keeping track of all the action on the clipboards.  Thank you to Alex Roske for his help throughout and keeping the sound on point.  Thank you to the Vco family of Emmet Klocker, Nikki Klocker, Andy Conrad, Molly Neyssen, and Mike Pettit for all their help A-Z.  Thank you to our tour sponsors for keeping the WITP stoked with all the extras and hooking the kids up at each and every stop. Watch it HERE   Taking a holiday from Amsterdam, Volcom organized its 2014 European Damn Am in Cascais, Portugal last weekend from July Friday 18 to Sunday 20. The amazing location of the new Parque das Geraçoes skatepark was the perfect fit for the event, overseeing the ocean, sunshine and a great skatepark with plenty of fun features. The skatepark of Tampa crew rocked the show with DJ Wade on the music commands and an international field of skaters that didn’t disappoint the crowd with stylish lines and so many tricks that went down. After placing second of the Saturday qualifiers and earning himself a “golden ticket” for the finals, Kyle Walker took the 6th place; Diego Cano put together a really good run and finished 5th, while Jorge Simões was the crowds favorite and took the 4th place. Top 3 finishers was really tight with Norwegians bros Gard Hvaara and Hermann Stene taking respectively the 3rd and 2nd place with super consistent runs filled with bangers, but Nassim Guammaz did it again and won the whole thing with two flawless full speed runs. The weekend ended with the Independent best trick and the Phelper making the calls, a rarely seen bs five-o shove it down the rail was landed by Eniz Fazliov and Andrew Verde got a switch fs blunt shove it! Scroll down to see the videos highlights and photos from Sunday finals, Best trick, Saturday qualifiers and Friday bowl session below with full results!
