Volcom presents True To This: Mitch Coleborn "Never Ending Path"
After a day of mostly epic conditions yesterday for the 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro, stormy wind conditions and a drop in wave height have led to less-than-contestable surf for Day 2 here at the Banzai Pipeline. Contest officials have called the first “Lei Day" of the event and the next call will be made tomorrow morning at 7:30am HST. In the meantime, WATCH THIS EXCLUSIVE VIDEO of Volcom team rider and Pipe Pro competitor Mitch Coleborn getting absolutely barreled out of his mind in Fiji!

Day One Wrap Up - 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro
Banzai Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii (January 29th, 2015): As the sun came up on the first day of the 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro waiting period, it didn’t take long for contest officials to fire off the first announcement of the event. The wind and waves were cooperating nicely and the competition was called on with an 8:00am start. The all-Hawaiian Round of 112 saw nothing but epic Pipeline conditions from start to finish, and the highlight of the day was the Volcom Last Chance Qualifier (VLCQ) heat where 8 Pipe veterans delighted the crowd with mind-blowing Pipe and Backdoor barrels. The Round of 96 started strong, but by the 4th heat the wind changed and conditions quickly deteriorated causing the contest to be put on hold and eventually called off for the day. Landon McNamara - Photo: Bielmann The Round of 112 was stacked with some of Hawaii’s most exciting Pipeline specialists, and they did not disappoint. Makai McNarmara quickly got things started with a few steep and deep backdoor barrels which certainly got the crowd’s attention. Reef Macintosh threw down the highest total heat score of the round with a total of 14.40. When the Round of 96 got underway, Brazilian Hizunome Bettero showed no fear as he was threading the needle on a gem scoring one of the day’s highest single wave scores, an 8.93. Bruce Irons - Photo: Bielmann The most exciting heat of the day was definitely the VLCQ in which the one remaining wildcard spot in the event was on the line. The 3rd annual VLCQ was a 40 minute, 8-man heat in which veteran Pipe warriors Bruce Irons, Gavin Beschen, Alex Gray, Kawai Lindo, JD Irons, Kaimana Henry, Derek Ho and Makua Rothman battled it out in a best-wave, winner-take-all barrelfest. All 8 competitors locked into some amazing rides, but in the end it was Bruce’s 9.0 that secured his spot in the upcoming Round of 64. The contest will resume with the 5th heat of the Round of 96, and will continue into the Round of 64 where we’ll get our first look at past champions Kelly Slater and John John Florence. We are excited to see our two event wildcards, Balaram Stack (Long Island, NY) and Parker Coffin (Santa Barbara, CA) hit the water as well. Check back on VolcomPipePro.com tomorrow morning for the next call at 7:30am HST! Be sure to watch today’s Heats On Demand and check out the entire Day One Photo Gallery!

Peanut Butter And Rail Jam - Mammoth Mountain, CA 2015
Stop #3 of Volcom Stones Peanut Butter and Rail Jam felt the warm embrace of sunny skies at Mammoth Mountain, CA on Saturday Jan. 24, 2015. Volcom's own Jeff Arnold aka: @jarnoldairlines takes flight over Stop #3 of the PBRJ at Mammoth Mountain as Chris Martinez snaps an overhead photo. The PBRJ has come a long way since its inception at Mammoth Mountain 15 years ago.  What was a small gathering of local rippers celebrating snowboarding at its core has now become a global event.  The Unbound crew has brainstormed and built nearly every imaginable feature for the PBRJ in years past, but showed they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Today’s contest site consisted of the quintessential down rail in zone 1, a double “railroad track” rail to single down rail in zone 2, and a formidable down flat down rail in zone 3.  Competitors from all over North America, New Zealand, Argentina, South Korea, and Japan came to test their skills as they tried to qualify for the  $17,000 PBRJ Global Championships at Mammoth Mountain on April 18, 2015. The Unbound crew knows what it takes to build and maintain a top notch PBRJ site. 10-Year-Old Jake Langston locks into a 50-50 transfer 50-50 to boardslide on the train track to down rail in zone 2. Jake impressed our judges so much that he earned an invite to the 2015 PBRJ Global Championships by placing 4th in the 15 & Under Division. 2014 15 & Under Division Global Champion Joey Fava cannot get enough of the PBRJ and we cannot get enough of his ripping. He shows this rail whose boss by pulling a cab 270 front board 270 out in zone 1. Judd Henkes maybe a little small in stature but stands tall on this 50-50 fs 360 off the kink in zone 3. He also pulled a perfect bs 360 50-50 in zone 1 and a half cab 50-50 transfer 50-50 board slide 270 out in zone 2 to take the win in the 15 & Under Division. Brendon Krainer leans into a nose press bs 180 out after double board sliding the railroad rails in zone 2. It was absolutely flawless so we rewarded him with a free Volcom snowboard to go with his 2nd place finish in the 16 – 21 Division. Pat Fava flexing a bs tail press through the kink rail in zone 3 as the sun shines down on Mammoth Mountain. Levi Kaseroff terrorized the down rail with multiple sw and regular 270 spins in and out. He also linked a double boardslide to fs boardslide 270 out in zone 2 and a high speed 50-50 fs 360 out in zone 3. The combination of all these dastarly deeds landed him in 1st place for the 16 - 21 Division. Spring time conditions make for a relaxing PB&J lunch break with all the fixings. Sierra Jewett links a bs 50-50 to boardslide down the formidable down flat down rail in zone 3. Jill Perkins is the happiest person we have ever seen on a snowboard. She was grinning from ear to ear the entire day. Her positive vibes were contagious. Danika Duffy slammed a few times before landing this this picture perfect gap lipslide. She had everyone cheering her on as she made her way into the top spot for the Girls Division. Danny Salazar did what no other dare attempt on this down flat down. Here he lands a board-breaking gap to flat lipslide in zone 3. He received the $100 Rev’d Rider award for this high impact maneuver. Joss McAlpin pops a solid bs 360 out of a 50-50 on the kinker in zone 3. He was hunting for the top spots bagging 3rd place for his efforts. Bryan Pracht avoids the pinch as he shoots the gap to pole jam boardslide in zone 2. Jeff Harvey put on a display of style and technicality throughout the Open/Am Division. The freeze frame here shows a stalled out fs 360 off the kink and over the business end of the down flat down in zone 3. Samm Neuman working towards victory with the bs 360 50-50 fs 180 out in zone 1. He also nailed a very notable fs boardslide through the entire down flat down rail in zone 3. We would like to thank Caroline Casey, Molly Dawoud, and Michelle Tomaier of Mammoth Mountain for their help in the facilitation of this event.  Thank you to TJ Dawoud and the entire Unbound Terrain park staff for the excellent care of the PBRJ site.  Thanks to our judges Nate Bishop, Travis Rebiscke, and Thomas Moloney for keeping track of all the riders throughout the day. Thank you to the entire Volcom team of Oren Tanzer, Jeff Arnold, Chris Sumpter, Chris Martinez, Hope Lane, and Miquette Elliott.
