STOP #6 OF VOLCOM'S NORTH AMERICAN PBRJ TOUR
The 6th stop of the 2010 North American PBRJ tour had us battling some nasty New Jersey weather at Mountain Creek Resort on Sunday, January 24th!

Our annual visits to “The Creek” are always eventful and the resort crew makes our lives easy! The terrain park manager, Marc Tremain is a dove of a gentleman and always puts in some serious hours sculpting one of the best PBRJ contest sites we see each season on the North American tour! The guys literally work through the night putting it together with chainsaws and other assorted equipment. I suppose the event site could be referred to as “The Jersey chainsaw Massacre”! This time around it consisted of a down-lift tower, a flat up box and a kicker/butter pad to long down box. Needless to say, the competitors were stoked!

Heat 1 of the 15 & Under Division hiking up to the drop in area

Hugh Reynolds, who works in the marketing department, is also a delight to work with. While new on the Mountain Creek scene, he’s an organizational mastermind and does an amazing job helping up cross us T’s and dot I’s. Without the hard work of these two individuals (and many others at Mtn Creek) the event wouldn’t be what it is and we’re grateful for their PBRJ dedication.

50-50 tail press, zone 2

The sky was full of clouds as the 15 & Under Division got underway at 10am. Being notoriously tenacious rail slayers, the Jersey groms got down to business in an expeditious fashion. They laid waste to all three PBRJ contest features in an effort to convince the judges they were worthy of a berth in the finals. Switch 50-50s, front boards and a 50-50 b/s 360 were just the tip of the iceberg as the kids pulled out all the stops! Later on at awards, Bryan Watson was crowned 1st, Zach Mathes 2nd and Aaron Michalov placed 3rd!

Backside noseslide, zone 2

The 16 & Over Division was up to throw down next and was lead by numerous PBRJ faithful. The Strother brothers, Nick Filippini, Kyle Luza and many others charged the features with a hustle and focus we rarely see! Fakie back lips, nolllie tail presses, lipslides and f/s 270 to front board all went down in quick succession as the judges struggled to keep up with the jibtastic anarchy! After all was said and done, Chad Strother claimed 1st, Brett Stewart nailed 2nd and Kyle Luza 3rd!

Like rabid hyenas devouring a carcass, the PB&J didn't stand a chance

If there’s one constant regarding the Volcom PBRJ at Moutnain Creek it’s the plethora of talented female rippers! The girls charge and apparently aren’t intimidated by anything the diabolical Marc Tremain and his terrain park henchmen can concoct! From the starting horn to the last seconds, the ladies gave us something to thing about! From front boards to back lips, the competition was neck and neck! At the end of the day, Jennifer Cusick placed 1st, Tara Emirnson 2nd and Christine Shurilla 3rd!

Pure style in progress here

The rain came to a stop as the Open Division strapped in and took aim at the custom PBRJ event site! While not numbering many, these guys made up for it with some seriously heavy riding! You name it and the trick went down! The competition actually seemed to feed itself with each banger nailed or slam taken. Amazing! Tom Weiss took 1st, Emery Callison 2nd and Billy Keil 3rd!

Boardslide, zone 2

Thanks to Hugh Reynolds and the rest of the fine people at Mountain Creek resort for all their hard work, before, during and after the PBRJ! Special thanks to Marc Tremain and the terrain park crew for putting an absolutely insane amount of time and effort into the PBRJ site! Thanks also to Dave “Dark Blizzard” Spruill, Juice and Dave for judging, Matt Lareau for being a jack-of-all-trades as well as Christina Brown and John Stuart for helping with registration. Thanks to all the sponsors below for hooking it up for the kids!
