| STOP #16 OF NORTH AMERICA'S PBRJ TOUR |
 |
The 16th stop on Volcom Stones North American Peanut butter & Rail Jam tour was one for the books with an unbelievable event site and a plethora of talent.
This year’s event site was one of the best we’ve seen yet consisting of three unbelievably progressive areas. Zone one was a three-featured hubba consisting of a flat-down box, a middle box, and a side rail with 10-foot drop off the edge of the feature. Zone 2 was one of the most interesting features we’ve run in to on the tour yet! It was made up of 2 offset butter pads, (1 box facing up to another facing down) split in the middle by a flat bar. This allowed the competitors to be as creative as they wanted. Zone 3 was a long and intimidating down-flat corrugated pipe (55 feet). After gazing for the first time on the amazing venue, we knew it was going to be an entertaining day!
The day got started with two up-temp 15 & Under Division heats. The mini-shreds had the prestigious task of setting the tone for the day, and they stepped up in fine form. The noticeable hustle and trickery was a real “treat for a guy” to watch. Greasy stuff like nose pressing allover of the hubba, 180 tail-tapping over the rail in zone 2 to switch tail pressing the down box, and locking in 50-50 on the enormous corrugated pipe!
After the groms, the girls came in strong and rained fury down upon the PBRJ scene! This was a legendary display of tatlent; it was clear from the beginning that these girls were going to battle to the death for PBRJ glory! Spectators and fellow competitors watched as the ladies threw down bangers like front-side board slide to 270 out on the hubba, 270 over the rail to down box and board sliding through corrugated pipe. An exceptional showing from all the girls!
Next up, the infamous 16 & Over Division came out swinging with fists-a-flying. Similar to previous years, we saw heavy hitters like Tyy Clark and Matt Goddard go head-to-head for 10 rounds! We saw tricks like front lip to pretzel 270 out on the down part of the hubba feature, 360 over the rail end to tail pressing the down box, and crazy front boards through the down and flat part of the corrugated feature. These boys really wanted it and it showed in their riding!
Last but not least came the long anticipated Open Division! Watching these boys you could tell they had a fire driving them, terrorizing the three features and running back up to the drop in area to get as many hit as they could. Some notable names were Kevin Griffin, Alex Stathis and Pat Brobeck. These boys kept everyone on the edge of their seat with hammers like 50-50 to 360 off the corrugated piece, 360 tail on the down-box to 180 off and switch-up on the 10 foot down-rail. These boys knew how to please the crowd!
A huge thank-you to Jikke Stegeman, Mark Bernardo, Sean Keating, Mark Williams and the entire Seymour park crew for all their dedication. It’s always fun working with Mount Seymour and they always go above and beyond to put together super-progressive event sites. Thanks also to Jake Gelowitz, Tyler Ellement, and Eric Gravenish for judging as well as Christina Campbell and Persia Stevens for tabulating. Thanks to Tyler Quarles, Leroy Seymour and Andrew Horton for all their help and support!
