Once again, lucky stop #13 on this years Volcom Peanut Butter and Rail Jam tour went down at Martock Resort, Nova Scotia on March 14th, 2010.
Ahhhh, Nova Scotia. A true Canadian gem, filled with beautiful landscapes and some of the friendliest people you’d ever meet. We kept with PBRJ tradition and set aside some time to visit a couple of our favorite locations, the Halifax nightlife, the beautiful Peggy’s Cove and home to some of the best East Coast waves, Lawrencetown. This province, rich in culture and heritage, is also a provider of a seriously core snowboard community. It was easy to see that this region is a breeding ground of shredding talent. …and that’s without considering names like Trevor Andrew, Alex Duckworth and Sarah Conrad calling Ski Martock their home mountain.
You can't get much further East than this on North American soil -- Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia
Martock custom Volcom PRBJ site was made up of a 15 ft down flat bar, a fat 24ft flat box and a 30 ft flat-down ‘Corey P’!
The rider's were chomping at the bit to get going during Jeff Arnold's pre-contest meeting
The first group to get down to busineses was the 15 & Under Division. The stand out riders gave the cameras a serious workout and set the lightning pace for the judges. Among other tricks, we saw a f/s 270 front board to 270 out, back lipslides and a f/s 50-50 f/s 360 out. First place went to Jevin Allen, Floris Bouman held it down to take second and a well-deserved third was all Cole Parsons!
Patrick Rooney getting it done on the flat-down pipe in zone 1
Next mob to rush the site was the 16+ boys. Nollie nosepresses, front blunt b/s 270 out and switch front boards had all the fans lined up along the sidelines supporting the action. An onslaught of heavies in all three zones had our heads spinning! Once the pillaging was complete, 1st place went to Stephen Vassallo, 2nd place to Justin Clarke and 3rd place went to Robbie Johnson!
This guy's stoked on his sandwich but I don't think his friend is...
The sun finally made its presence known and warmed everyone up just as the Girl’s Open Division took the dance floor and hammered out a helluva number! These fine ladies were wearing the pants in this relationship, destroying all three features as though on a mission of destruction. With a “take no prisoners” assault, we witnessed front boards, switch 50-50s and event a back lip! The scores were added up and Sara Payzant was crowned 1st, Dallas Roukre in second and Charlotte Butcher took third!
Front board, zone 2
A perfect end to a perfect PBRJ party brought on the Open Men and it was no surprise that minds we’re blown! It was complete Mullet madness!!! As expected Jeremy Page showed up, but this time he decided to hand in the second place finish he pulled off last year and upgrade to first. The guy is smoooooth and took ownership of Electric's "Gooeyest Move" too! Once the judges made sense of it all 2nd place went to Jordan Newcombe and 3rd to Garrett Connolly!
Boardslide, zone 1
A incredible amount of support was provided by Andy MacLean, Dawson Hood, Heather and Jim and all the Ski Martock crew. Year after year, they always make us feel like part of the family and go the extra mile to make the PBRJ a success! A huge PBRJ thank you from us all. High fives to our judges panel, Dawson Hood, Andrew “Bubba” Armstrong and Adam Ritchie. Dinner with the Pro Girls crew was a great kick off to the trip and Kim’s amazing dance moves will not soon be forgotten. As always, thanks to all our PBRJ tour sponsors below for helping us stoke the competitors with a bunch of extra prizing!
