The Goldfish Surf Series went nuts this weekend at Pismo Pier! After canceling the previous
weekend due to severe stormy weather we rolled the dice and ran the event on the
following weekend, and man did it pay-off. We pulled up the pier in the morning to zero
winds and solid waist to head high waves. Once the tent city was erected and the over
anxious Groms were signed up, we kicked this thing with a bang.

Bummy Keopenick lost early but was in great spirits all day playing with
his air gun!

The day graced us with a temperature of 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The kids
ran around like maniacs all day and the parents cursed our names as we brought out the
chocolate syrup and flour. After everyone got their fill of delicious Chipotle it was time to roll into the final and crown a winner! Check

contest.

Watch heat recaps at www.volcompipepro.com

NORTH SHORE, Oahu - (Feb. 1st, 2012) – The final day of competition at the 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro ended in a spectacular showdown in the last
10-seconds of the 35-minute final with John Florence taking the win with a buzzer-beating 9.93 Backdoor barrel. His last wave, together with his earlier perfect 10-
point ride, put his combined heat score at 19.93 out of a possible 20 to edge out former Pipe Pro Champion Jamie O’Brien in 2nd, Kai Barger in
3rd and Nate Yeomans in 4th.

O’Brien held the lead for the majority of the final, only to see the top spot disappear in the last minute of the heat. With a minute to go, Florence paddled over and
congratulated O'Brien. Then a dark line on the horizon caught his eye. One last wave stacked up on the Pipeline reef. Florence clawed his way past Jamie, over the
ledge, under the lip and into the heat-winning tube ride - a 9.93 - to claim the $20,000 first prize and a custom warrior helmet trophy.

"I wrote myself off half way through,” said Florence. “Kai and Jamie both had nines and eights. Jamie had two nines. I can't believe it. Here at Pipe anything can
happen. I surfed my first heat, then had my hand (injury) and tweaked my neck really bad and that was killing me. So I was seriously considering not continuing on. I
got some work done on my neck, taped my hand up and it all worked out.”

Back on the beach, O'Brien and Florence shook hands and O'Brien shook his head.

"It hurts," said Jamie, holding onto the runner-up $10,000 check. "You think you're going to win and you don't. It's OK. I got some really good scores and I put on a
great performance, I felt. To me that means everything. I had a great time. I finally got in a good rhythm my last couple of heats. I enjoyed myself and it was a good
day."

This event marks the second consecutive year that Florence and O’Brien have taken the number 1 and 2 spots at the Volcom Pipe Pro.

Also awarded today was the Todd Chesser Hard Charger Sportsmanship Award - presented to Costa Rica's Carlos Munoz who posted the first perfect score of the
event in the early rounds and finished in equal ninth place.

As an added bonus, Electric’s “Perfect 10 Award” was given out to any surfer that locked in a 10-point ride during the event. Winners received $1,000 in cash,
handed to them directly after their heats. Recipients included: Carlos Munoz (Costa Rica), Dylan Graves (Puerto Rico), Dusty Payne (Hawaii), Balaram Stack (New York)
and John Florence (Hawaii).

Sometimes everything just comes together.... it could the moon or the way the sun is positioned to the earth or it could be that the
'mojo' is just right or better yet it could be that when you put in a lot of hard work it pays off! This is exactly what proved to be true
last night in Colorado.

Last night we had two of our top Volcom snowboarders Jess Kimura and Elena Hight win BIG! Jess Kimura walked away with 3 <a

snowboarding-riders-poll-awards/" target="_blank">Transworld Snow Awards- Women's 'Video part of the year' for her part in
Defenders of Awesome, 'New Era Reader's Choice Award' and the coveted 'Women's Rider of the Year' award. At the exact same time
this was being announced in Denver, Colorado at the award show, Elena Hight was putting down a show at Winter XGames in Aspen and
finished her 3rd run at Women's Superpipe to solidify her silver position at the Winter XGames. WOW!

Huge congratulations Jess and Elena!!! Girls Rule... especially you two!

Jess Kimura's teaser part from Capita's Defenders of Awesome.. Jess is a total bad-ass!
The best method ever? The best cab spins? Perhaps the best slash too! Volcom honors the
induction of Jamie Lynn as a Legend at the 13th Transworld Rider’s Poll Awards. In what
many considered the best acceptance speech by a snowboarder, Jamie Lynn truly
outperforms in all areas. The Volcom lifer set a standard in Veeco films from Alive We Ride,
to The Garden and most recently, Escramble. Jamie’s riding has been studied and emulated
for years and it’s fair to say “rewind” came immediately following each of his video parts.
The iconic gloveless kid from the Northwest influenced a global tribe of snowboarders. He
has a Facebook page dedicated to his Method, 18 pro model snowboards, is the front man
for the band Kandi Coded and an artist. Jamie is a legend in every way, shape, and form
and for this, we salute you!

Thank you Jamie Lynn!

won his second event in a row at Sunset. This time it was the North Shore Surf Shop Pro Junior. Zeke picked up where he left off after winning the HIC Pro 4 star event last November and placed first in every heat he surfed in except for the semi finals where he placed second. In the final, Zeke scored a heat total of 15.83 which was enough to take the win over Makai McNamara. Congratulations Zeke!!

What's better then a cold day in Quebec city?
Rhetorical question, it’s obviously a crisp sunny bluebird day of shredding at Mont Avila in
QC.
Stop #4 and Canada's first stop of Volcom's Peanut Butter Rail Jam took place on January
21, 2012.

Now, when we say 'Peanut Butter and Rail Jam', you think 'rail jam' or delicious snack.
Food aside, that’s what the Mont Avila Park served up. A feast fit for a king. The contest
plate was healthy combination of long barrels and down bars, pared with a delicious stair-
set combined with rainbow rail goodness.

Spreading it!

First to drop their lines in the water this stop was the 15 and under category. I mean, who
doesn't like watching mini-shreds take the world by storm.
These kids will huck off, throw down, spin into, onto and out of most any feature. These
fearless rubber bands are hardheaded mini-innovators. The new soul and vision of these
events who make sure they remind us at every stop. Championships will give these small
guys a BIG opportunity to shine. Joel Massariol was crowned champion but Felix Patry and
Karim LaChapelle were hot on his heels.

Swiveling, Spinning, and Stomping. Triple S Threat!

Layed Out Press!

DESTROYERS OF AWESOMENESS. That’s what we should re-name our 16 & over category.
Tell em' to ride free, they express. Give em' the tools to send it, they deliver. The ability
matched with consistency of these teen-shreds makes for one of the most entertaining of
the categories. These kids wanted the championship invites and would settle for nothing
less to get them. Taking home the #1 position was Alexandre Desjardins with some serious
hammers. Not far behind was Danick Godbout in 2nd and Paul Antoine reeling in 3rd. Keep
on with the destruction!

Sun Flares Of Style!

There must be something in the water here.
If there is anyone who can keep up with the men, it’s definitely these women.
They have gone and proven it. East coast girls destroy rails! We were blown away with the
bomb status and degree of destruction these girls were responsible for this year at Avila.
With the quickly increasing turnout in the female category at each event, the girls are a
force to be reckoned with. It was Melissa Rodrigue who took home 1st place for the second
year in a row! Holding down 2nd and 3rd was Camille Bellavance and Marjorie Couturier

Food Break And A Melon Lip- Gooey!

When you think easy coast, you think urban riders and rail gurus. Well needless to say, we
got more then we expected. This category was stacked. The riders were on fire with the
heat from the plethora of 270s, switch-ups, and feature-to-feature gap to disasters. It was
a spectacle to behold.
I would be lying if I said these guys didn’t have all of the spectators and fellow goons on
the sidelines cheering endlessly for their Tomfoolery. Axel Theoret took home Electric’s
“Gooeyest Move of the Event” with a savage gap melon back lip and also the 3rd place
finish. Diego Guerrero claimed victory with a solid execution of 3 hammers in all 3 zones.
Solid performance gents!

The double-header weekend ended with a storm! Stop #3 of Volcom Stone’s Peanut Butter
and Rail Jam tour blew into Bear Mountain on Sunday January 15, 2012.

<img src="http://www.volcom.com/admin/uploadFiles/Pbrj/2012-

Board Slide Through The Battle Ship

With close to 200 competitors and it being the last CA qualifier, we knew we were in for a
show. And what better venue? The Bear Mountain base area of course. As always, Bear went
above and beyond with the set-up. A big thank you goes out to Clayton Shoemaker, Greg
Seabre, and Dan Neilson for putting together a super fun jam site. The snow park is in full
swing! Go get it if you haven’t been.

<img src="http://www.volcom.com/admin/uploadFiles/Pbrj/2012-

Spreading A Little Swivel

The first order of business is the 15 and Under division. This is the true future friends.
These up and comers are not only adorable but also very impressive to see the level of
ability. We awarded 7 year old Dillon Henrickson a new outerwear kit for being one of the
most inspiring rider’s of the day. The dude is mini and charges hard! Probably has
something to do with keeping up with his brother Dusty. At the end of the day the judges
awarded 1st place to Jerome Nolan, 2nd to Joey Fava, and 3rd to Dray Gardner. Can’t wait
to see what the champs holds in store.

Nose Press Front 180 Out

Up next were the 16 and Over division. At the mark of the 3rd “bang” these riders were
sending it! The brothers Sovich made a good showing with Chris taking home 1st and
Nathan snatching 3rd. It was Brendon Monohan who snuck away with the 2nd place finish.
Good showing gentlemen!

Sending It!

The Ladies were next to step it up. It’s always rad to see the camaraderie between the
ladies. They’re so supportive of each other and it’s a real treat to witness the growth of this
community. These girls were spinning, gapping, and pressing there way through all the
features that were layed in front of them. It was an impressive showing with Melissa
Spillman taking home first, Melissa Evens 2nd, and Jamie Madrid taking home 3rd! Good
work ladies!

Good looking Method

The grand finale was the Open division and with $500 bucks up for grabs it was time to
throw down. The Open rider’s had a formidable challenge in that we included the new “Bat-
wing” feature. This beast of a rail consists of a massive elbow rail with banked boxes. A
true beast. It was Robert Toste that blew everyone away when he locked into a half-cab tail
press through and through. It also won him Electric’s Gooeyest Move of the Event! Buzz
Holbrook secured 1st place with gap back 3s to the down section of the battleship rail. Erik
Leon and Joshua Keyser took home 2nd and 3rd respectively. See you at the Champs!
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the good people at Bear Mountain that
helped make this year’s event a success. Thanks you Rio Tanbara, Mindy Clark, Clayton
Shoemaker, Greg Seabre, and Dan Neilson. We’d also like to commend the judging panel:

The third stop of the Pufferfish Surf Series will go down as one of the best contests ever at
Pine Trees! When we arrived on Kauai on Friday the 13th, the conditions were as bad as it
gets! Giant closeouts and 40 mile per hour devil winds left us thinking Saturday was not
going to happen. When we arrived on the beach in the morning we were greeted with super
glassy 4 ft peeks and over 120 competitors waiting to sign up in the dark! It was on! We
finally got everything set-up and with the sunlight coming up we threw the Groms in the
water and got the day moving. The day went off without a hitch, conditions continued to
get better and better and before we new it was time for the finals! Here is a recap of the
day’s shenanigans!

Stop # 2 of Volcom Stone’s Peanut Butter and Rail Jam took place at Mammoth Mountain Resort on Saturday January 14, 2012.

270 In and Out. Renji Ueno

Similar to years past the Unbound terrain park professionals put together a super fun site that included a good mix of creative features and solid rail staples. This year’s contest set-up included: a 40 ft round down bar, a bonk to dance floor, and skate plaza style brick planter creation (aka the brick yard). It was a great site to wet our appetites for the $20,000 Championships on April 21, 2012.

Deep Shifty

The 15 and under division is always an inspiring group to behold, especially in Mammoth. These young rippers are the future and they are getting it done. Joshua Douglas locked down his 2nd victory in a row! Josh managed to lock into a Front board to 180 swivel to 270 out on the down bar-mind bending! It was Pat Fava who locked down 2nd place and nipping at his heels was Judd Henkes taking home 3rd. Good showing boys!

Scott Hoffman Getting Creative

Switch Lip Slide

The 16 and Over division were up next to slay the jam site. We saw some smooth back lips down the 40 footer, presses through the grass, and foot plants on the bonk feature. An impressive array of tricks but it was Burne Carraway who took home victory with Plake Pasher in 2nd and Thomas Baxter in 3rd. Excited to see what these guys bring to the champs.

Back lip through and through

The ladies division was not the largest group but their talent level made up for their lack in numbers. It was Mariah Dugan who blew everybody away when she locked into a front board between the bindings all the way through the 40 footer! The crowd went wild and this maneuver played a big part in her 1st place finish. Good skills ladies!

Plake Pasher With A Back 3 In And Back 3 Out Of The Brick Yard

Back 3 5050. Buzz Holbrook

The Open division closed out the day and as always, we saved the best for last. Not only do we get to bear witness to the technical ability but we also get to see how creativity can factor into taking home a coveted invite to the Championship event. It was Frank Knab who wrestled himself the 1st place finish! Scott Hoffman and Garrett Warnick weren't far behind with 2nd and 3rd place standings. Good showing gents!

Going Bonkers!

Stalefish Disaster

Switch Front Blunt 450 Out. Mark Reininga

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mammoth Mountain again all of their help with this event. Molly Bardwell, Joanna Kaylor and Josh Chauvet,, thank you for all the logistical assistance. A big thanks goes to Michael Gregory, Chris Zajac and the rest of the terrain park staff for all of their hard work in putting together the contest site. Can’t wait to see what you come up with for the Champs! A special shout out goes to our esteemed judging panel: Dakota Franklin, Danny Thomas, and Nate Arujo. Thanks guys for getting it done. Also, a big thanks goes out to Chris Martinez and Matt Clausen for their lens work. Lastly we’d like to thank our additional sponsors for chipping in the extra product and stoke:
