True To This - Volcom HQ - World Premiere Tour Kick Off!

March 1st, 2014 - Volcom HQ, Costa Mesa, CA: Volcom Kicks off the "True To This" World Premiere Tour with a massive event at the Costa Mesa headquarters. When Volcom was founded in 1991, it was the first company to combine skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding under one brand from its inception. This way of life influenced the anti-establishment style and attitude that defined a generation. The cultural phenomenon was best captured when Volcom released "Alive We Ride" in 1993: a film documentingthe raw excitement and spontaneous creativity inherent to the lifestyle. Twenty-one years later, with the release of "True To This", Volcom again captures the energy and artistry of board-riding in its purest forms. Shot all around the world and showcasing iconic athletes, "True To This" is a tribute to the movement that inspired a generation and the people and places that embody that spirit today. An epic film deserves an epic party and not even the torrential rains, thunderstorms and power outages could stop that from happening. An estimated 5000 people showed up to get a first look at the film, party with the volcom team and rock out to the sounds of Dahga Bloom and Church of Sun. Five hours and 50 kegs later just about everyone agreed it was one of the best premieres they had ever been to. If you missed it there is a good chance you can catch the film at a tour stop near you! Check out volcom.com/truetothis for a full list of premiere locations and pre-order your limited edition "True To This" Box Set! TIPPI OF AFRICA

Tippi Benjamine Okanti Degre is a French girl that was born Namibia, Africa. Her parents were French wildlife photographers… Sylvie Roberts and Alain Degre. She was named after the actress Tippi Hedren and spent the first ten years of her life in the African bush. Already sounds good right? Her parents documented her early years with the exotic animals and tribes people. A book was published 8 years later… titled, Tippi: My Book Africa. The photographs of Tippi are pretty amazing. She rides an elephant and a ostrich, sits with a cheetah, holds a snake, kisses a bullfrog, and feeds a zebra all at the ripe of 6. Tippi is now in her 20’s, she lives in Paris and is studying cinema. Check out this doc on her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZyMwFWRqfg. XXX JJ

Arcosanti

Arcosanti is a eco-utopia/experimental city and a bronze bell casting community manifested by the Italian born architect Paolo Soleri. Soleri's concept blends ecology and architecture, which he called Arcology. Arcosanti is way out in the middle of the Southwest... there is a sign on the highway with an arrow. It is about 50 miles north of Phoenix, Arizona. Paolo Soleri was an architect who came from Italy to study at Taliesin West, under Frank Lloyd Wright. He went on to establish his own visions and foundation. Arcosanti was birthed in the 1970's, hand built by Paolo and volunteers. It was intended to house 5,000 people, currently there are about 50 live in residents. It is yet to be fully actualized. Check out the website: http://www.arcosanti.org/... Arcosanti is definitely a place to see... recently it hosted part of The High Desert Test Site Project: XXX JJ

Tia Blanco: Sunset Chaser

Where is your favorite place to watch the sun go down? The sunset at the San Clemente Pier is always pretty.  The colors are always different, sometimes pink shades, sometimes orange shades.  My mom said it depends on the smog in LA haha! Are you early to bed/ early riser or a night owl? I'm usually super tired by 8pm because of surfing and training. But, now with school my classes are a lot harder so I'm slowly becoming a night owl. What is your favorite inspirational quote or song lyric you've been into lately? Lately, I've been really liking that song by Lorde called Royals.  The whole album is actually pretty good =) What time of day is your favorite to surf? (doesn't have to be sunset :) & why? I like afternoon and evening sessions  the best  only because I'm fully awake and ready to surf
