Volcom Outerwear with Gore-Tex Provides Maximum Protection from Weather

Found throughout the Guide Proven Technology (GPT) collection from Volcom Outerwear, GORE-TEX®’s fabric provides a durable waterproof, windproof and highly breathable outer layer shell essential to performing under the most critical conditions. In addition to keeping you dry by providing reliable weather protection, GORE-TEX® allows perspiration vapor to escape your outerwear so your body stays dry and you remain comfortable.

"Growing up in the Northwest we get a variety of different conditions, from world record snowfall at Mount Baker, to 90 days of straight rain. I learned real fast, if you want to stay warm, dry and comfortable GORE-TEX® is the only way." -Jamie Lynn
Different GORE-TEX® technologies can be found throughout the GPT collection and are utilized depending on the product's overall design and intended use.

Last season we introduced GORE-TEX®’s new GORE® C-KNIT™ backer technology to our flagship TDS® Jacket. This new 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabric with GORE® C-KNIT™ backer technology weighs up to 10% less than standard 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabric and improves breathability by as much as 15% while remaining durable, waterproof and windproof.

For our Guide Jacket and Guide Pant we use standard 3-layer GORE-TEX® fabric for its added durability which is the result of bonding the garment’s backing (flannel in Red, mesh in Camouflage) directly to the GORE-TEX® membrane which then doesn’t require the additional breathable lining system like the 2-layer GORE-TEX® does. By removing the need for a separate liner, there is no movement between layers, reducing wear and tear caused by friction, and increasing the garment’s overall durability while weighing less.

The most common and versatile GORE-TEX® fabric found in jackets and pants in the Volcom GPT collection is a 2-layer construction that when combined with Volcom’s V-Science breathable lining system provides excellent weather protection and maximum comfort.

3-Layer GORE-TEX® vs. 2-Layer GORE-TEX®

3-Layer GORE-TEX® laminate construction is used on the Volcom Guide Jacket and Pant, where Volcom’s inner flannel or mesh garment lining is bonded directly to the GORE-TEX® membrane that itself is bonded to the outer fabric. Where in Volcom outerwear jackets and pants utilizing 2-Layer GORE-TEX® laminate construction, the garment makes use of a separate un-bonded Volcom V-Science liner, so that the GORE-TEX® membrane’s only direct bond is to the outer fabric.

"The difference that makes sense to me, is being able to stay outside in the elements longer. With GORE-TEX®, my gear letting me down is never an issue." -Jamie Lynn
