The 2007/2008 Australia/New Zealand Wild in the Parks tour headed south of the boarder
for the 10th and final stop at Melbourne, Riverside Skatepark Sat February 2nd.

Woodsy with a massive kicky to seal the deal
Melbourne’s summer sun came out all day making for perfect skate conditions for the last
qualifier before the WITP Champs in Sydney, 3rd of May. Everyone knew there was a trip
to the states up for grabs so there was no holding back and there was plenty of mayhem
throughout the contest with Volcom skate team rider’s Dustin Dollin showing up with a
huge bag of free proddie for the kids being swarmed for autographs for over an hour,
Lewis Marnell rocking the bongo drum trophies and shredding like mad, Shane Azar
keeping a close eye junior team riders Stevo Dugec, Kieran Reilly and Jack Fardell as
they destroyed the course with Chris Woods dominating the killer Riverside set-up to win
the open division.

Volcom’s own Kieran Reilly and Lewis Marnell raising the temperature to melting point.
As usual the 15 & Under division got the action under-way, it was the biggest turnout we’ve
seen this year with a 40 strong field of young shredders broken into 5 heats meant they had
to work hard to impress the judges and make the finals. Stand out ripper was 5 year old
Brad Saunders who put in a big effort, but it was Lachy Ross from Bayswater that threw
down the big tricks to ensure the best will be rewarded, with Lakyn Heperi second taking
home Electric Sunnies and a Vestal Watch, Slam Magazine subscriptions along with a
bunch of Volcom goodness with Chris Craig from Werribee taking third and qualification
to the Champs in May.

The 16 and Over division put on a Wild display of antics from the word go hitting the hubba
and fun box like it was going out of fashion. Volcom team rider Chris Woods had the place
wired landing his tricks with a smooth flowing style and was “so happy to win and now I want
to get to the USA for the World WITP Champs too” said Woodsy who threw down an amazing
360 flip to 50-50 on the fun box and stomped huge frontside flips over the hubba. Close behind
him all the way from Berlin, Germany was Mack McKelton in second and Jack Kink third
taking home X-E-N decks and Electric eyewear with special mention to Geoff Cook who
just missed out on the top three placing in fourth position.

Dustin Dollin was swarmed when he arrived, plenty of fun at Melbourne’s WITP.
Huge thanks from Volcom to Ryan Harbottle and his team at Riverside YMCA for helping
us out so much and being such gracious hosts especially for the use of the BBQ. Redbull
girls who came twice and kept everyone’s wings on. Anthony Mapstone for commenting/
entertaining the huge crowd all day, Volcom’s own Shane Azar helping regulate and judges
Renton Millar, Jurgen Horrwarta and Tristen Walker. To Cam & Nobby for being legends on
the BBQ & with the kids, Sarah helping out with rego and tallying, and to all the dedicated
parents and skaters for making it such an epic event.
