The 13th stop of Volcom Stone’s North American Wild in the Parks cut through Hazard County Skate Park like a buzz saw on steroids Saturday September 17th 2011!
Hazard County Skate Park has garnered quite a reputation over the years for providing an innovative skate park. The talent that comes through their doors on a regular basis could be intimidating to some, but is a welcome sight here in Georgia. Just to keep the local talent in check, competitors from all over the country came in to test their skills against the elite that Hazard has to offer.
1 feeble and a complimentary f/s shuvit out
The 14 & Under Division came out swinging and knocked the crowd back to the ropes from the ring of the bell. Before we could gather our thoughts the gloves were coming off and hammers where being put down in all three zones. These light-heavy weights were putting down feeble grind kick flip out, blunt slides, and one of the cleanest kick flip backside lip slides seen the entire day.
Big-sized kickflip over the hubba to flat
After catching our breaths from all the cheering Blaine Partridge took home the belt with 1st, David Jordan kept a close 2nd, and Harrison Grant proved himself worthy of a contenders match placing 3rd.
Flipping b/s 5-O
Nollie heelflip down the 6-set
After watching all the action from the previous heats, the 15 & Over competitors were ready to do their damage next. Screaming in like an F-16 these men came in hot busting huge nollie flips down the 6 stair, blasting variations over the pyramid to flat, and getting technical with change up tricks at the same time. If I didn’t know any better, these guys were trying to get into the Top Gun of skateboarding.
An all-around good day at the park happening here
Once the landing gear was down Bong Gause topped out in 1st, TJ Taylaur backed him up with 2nd, and Brian Jones walked away safely with 3rd for his efforts.
Tyler Keup, b/s 180 melon
How about a yo-yo flip? Is this something you might be interested in?
With the threat of total destruction imminent the Open Division was ready to blow the roof off of the building. It was nearly impossible to keep them at bay throughout all the previous action and now it was time to release the beasts. It must have been a full moon somewhere because these guys were destroying everything in sight. With tricks such as wall jam back tails on the bank to ledge, b/s 180 nose grind 180 out on the ledge to bank, and one of the hugest f/s flips from the pyramid over the stairs one could tell these guys did not come to play around.
Good-lookin’ noseblunt
Nollie heelflip boardslide!
When the darkest past and the light emerged Chris Coffman solidified himself a 1st place finish, Zeke Logan walked away with 2nd, and Max Taylor maximized his efforts coming in 3rd
A huge thank you to Jona Owings, Klein, Chase, and the rest of the amazing crew at Hazard County Skate Park for all their hard work! These guys (and girls) showed up early and were some of the last to leave! Thanks also to Volcom’s own Granger Clark for tabulating and helping us hold things down all day long. Thanks once again to Dan Plunkett, Graham Bickerstaff, and David Clark being a top notch judging panel. Of course, thanks to all the sponsors below for their WITP support!
