The 12th and final stop of Volcom’s North American Wild in the Parks tour scorched through Arizona’s Rio Vista Skate Park on September 22, 2012!
For the first time this season we maxed out the event! We gave out every bib we brought! With the full 200-competitor turnout along with the massive spectator crowd we knew it was time to get wild!
Registration Was Packed!
Same as years past the 3 zones were the fire cracker 6 with hubbas, the picnic table/euro gap/ledge, and of course the legendary ten with rails. The Rio Vista Skate Park has always been an amazing host for the event and a great venue for the WITP. Even team member Aaron Suski came out to take in the glory.
The Heat Ain't No Thang For This WITP Vigilante
We started the day with 5 heats of the 14 and Under Division. With no regard for the blazing Arizona heat these young bloods torched the 3 zones with a viscous assault of trickery: hard, tre, and finger flips down the 6, lip and power slides over the picnic table, and a back 3, kick flips, and stylish tre flip down the 10 were just a few of the notable bangers. Taking care of business all day long was Hayden Burns and he was awarded 1st for his skills. Jackson Ellis was another stand out and note worthy is that he’s 11 years old! He put on serious show and took home 2nd for his efforts. Not far behind was Cam Sedlick snatching up the 3rd place title.

Another element of the 14 and Under Division is the Lil’ Monkeys (10 and Unders). We saw another solid turn out with 15 mini-mites in attendance! This group was charging with the big dogs and a true inspiration.

Next to take the reins was the 15 and Over Division. They handled the park with authority making the crowd erupt in cheers. The judges had their hands full sorting through all the destruction but at the end of the day it was Chad Kwiatkowski’s techery earning 1st place with Brian Mitlon swooping up 2nd and Chase Herman not far behind for 3rd. It was a solid performance by the entire bunch.

The grand finale: the Open Division of course! AZ’s skate scene is on fire. So much talent came out for the annual show down. There were some familiar faces and fresh faces charging for a piece of the glory that is WITP. It was an epic battle but the final standings landed Adam Arunski on top with Caleb Schrank taking 2nd and a single point separated Dashawn Jordan’s 3rd place finish. Top 7 was stacked! All put on down serious moves in all three zones. It was a true show.

It felt good to end the tour on such a good note at Rio Vista Skate Park. It’s always been a great cap for the season. Thanks to Kevin Naughton for all of his diligence and Shawn, Debbie, and Nick for all of their help throughout the day. Big shout out to Volcom’s Mike Laughlin for busting his arse all day.
