"My City", A Latin American Skate Video Series
My City is a Volcom video series showcasing the Latin American Skate Team as they take us through their hometowns, showing us where they grew up skateboarding and what struggles they had to overcome along the way.
Jhancarlos Gonzalez is the first of nine to present visual documentation of the city where he learned to skate. Growing up in Medellin, Colombia, all the skateparks were terrible, but the spots were plentiful, if he could skate them before he got busted!
In Episode 2 we visit Jesus Munoz in Santiago, Chile, as he breaks down what it’s like in Santiago growing up as a skateboarder, his favorite places around the city, and some insider tips when visiting!
Heredia, Costa Rica
In Episode 3 we visit Kervin Miranda in his rural hometown of Heredia, Costa Rica. With unruly streets and police nipping at the heels, it’s not easy being a skateboarder in Heredia, but Kervin loves a challenge.
Abc, Sao Paulo, Brazil
In Episode 4 we visit Giovanni Vianna in his hometown of ABC located in São Paulo, Brazil. A city known for their automotive manufacturing industry and solid skate spots.
In Episode 5 we visit Federico Rossotti from Montevideo, the capital of the South American country of Uruguay. While the city itself is beautiful and has been known for having the highest quality of life of any city in Latin America, with pros there are always cons.
Merida, Yucatan, Mexico
In Episode 6 we visit Michael Scott in his city Mérida, Yucatán. A city known for its Mayan culture influence and colonial architecture as well as some amazing beaches and Cenotes to help calm the heat and the humidity.
Cubatao, Sao Paulo, Brazil
In Episode 7 we visit Akira Shiroma from Cubatao, Sao Paulo, Brasil. Akira knows what it takes to commit to the grind and live out your passion. From always being told skateboarding isn’t the right path, Akira has proved them all wrong, and has a story to tell. Dive in to learn more about the place Akira grew up and where he learned to skateboard.
In Episode 8 we visit Braulio Sagas from Santiago, Chile. Living in the largest city in Chile and capital of the South American country, as a skateboarder, at times it’s difficult to find a quality spot to throw down some skateboard tricks without being hassled. In this episode, Braulio shows you his favorite spots to skate in the city.
Mar Del Plata, Argentina
In Episode 9 of My City we visit 27-year old Milton Martinez from Mar del Plata, Argentina, a skateboarding-friendly town with a large coastal community. With crowds being an issue during the hot summer months, Milton and his skateboarding family make time to hit the various local skateparks and hang at his mom’s skate shop, Social Skate Shop.
