SYNOPSIS
In the first narrative feature from The Wolfpack (2015) director, Crystal Moselle, a young and introverted teenage skateboarder from Long Island, New York, named Camille (newcomer Rachelle Vinberg) becomes friends with a New York City-based and all-girl skateboarding crew called Skate Kitchen. Between her new-found crew and an increasingly fractious relationship with her mother, a romantic relationship evolves with a mysterious skateboarder (Jaden Smith) which proves to be trickier to navigate than she imagined.
Writer and Director Crystal Moselle immersed herself in the minds and lives of the skater girls and worked closely with them which yields the film’s authenticity and combines atmospheric, poetic filmmaking and captivating hypnotic skateboarding sequences. Skate Kitchen accurately captures the experience and struggles of women in male-dominated environments and tells a rich story of a girl who learns the importance of companionship and self-discovery.
