Stop #5 of Volcom’s Wild in the Parks – Grant Park Skatepark - Chicago, IL
Prior to the contest we rolled through Grant Skatepark in Chicago pretty late with Alec Majerus, Axel Cruysberghs and Alex Midler to show the zones! Check back tomorrow for the recap. Stop #5 of Volcom’s Wild In The Parks tour hit the famed Grant Park Skatepark in Chicago on Saturday July 25, 2015. Grant Park is a massive city park that spans a vast majority of Chicago’s metropolis area.  Last December the city council and the Grant Park Conservancy’s efforts to bring a world-class skateboard facility to downtown Chicago came to fruition.   The skatepark is huge with limitless variety of obstacles to keep the good times rolling on and on.  The park was a perfect fit to host the 1st Wild In The Parks in Chicago and skaters from all over the Midwest brought the fire to set it off. The 14 & Under Division was no joke and this frontside tailslide on the 8 stair rail by Cole Hosman was just one of the many tricks that earned him 1st in the division. Giovanni Alvarez killed it all day and earned his way into 2nd in the 14 & Under Division. Perfectly level back tail in zone 3. Ty Stigney cruised down from Minnesota with his homies. He took home 1st in the 15 - 21 division with impressive hammers like this kickflip crook. Austin Bland took 4th in the 15 - 21 Division. Bluntslide on the 8 stair in zone 1. Chase Domeier back smith 180 out in zone 3. He earned himself 6th in the 15 -21 Division. Taking home 1st in the Open/Am Division Cole Wayka consistantly landed bangers in all three zones. This 360 flip lipslide in Zone 2 was no exception. No stranger to the contest series, Tanner VanVark came in hot stomping all sorts of tricks like this 180 switch nosegrind to fakie in zone 1. He earned himself 2nd in the Open/Am Division Taking home 3rd in the Open/Am Division, Marcus Sarsycki did this frontside feeble 180 out on the A-frame. Brad Hay was another competitor that came down from Minnesota and ended up getting 5th in the Open/Am Division. Back 180 nosegrind to regular in zone 1. Joe Milazzo didn't place in the contest but did kill it hitting everything with speed and style. This back tail shove out on the bank to ledge in zone 2 was one of the many tricks that impressed Caswell enough to throw him in the van the next day! Results: 14 & Under Division: 1st: Cole Hosman 2nd: Giovanni Alvarez 3rd: Jasper Hrusovsky 4th: Lawsen Miller 5th: Nolan Kaiser 6th: Sean Robertson 7th: Rashaad Wells 15 – 21 Division: 1st: Ty Stigney 2nd: Andrew Glaspy 3rd: Benny Milam 4th: Austin Bland 5th: Matt Demaster 6th: Chase Domeier 7th: Henry Wollever Open/AM Division: 1st: Cole Wayka - $250 2nd: Tanner VanVark - $150 3rd: Marcus Sarsycki - $100 4th: Malik Jones 5th: Brad Hay 6th: Greyson Beal 7th: Brad Bedolla Caswell's Choice – presented by The Skateboard Mag:  Caswell Berry will award his favorite competitor from each stop of the 2015 Wild in the Parks tour to jump in the van with the Volcom team and shoot a photo to be featured in The Skateboard Mag with the footage to be featured on The Berrics!
