    Bastille Days Opening

Cliquez ici pour la version Française On Wednesday July 1st, Volcom opened its skate obstacle, which will remain all summer long on the Esplanade du Port de l’Arsenal, Place de La Bastille in Paris. The afternoon started with the official opening by the Paris city council, with the presence of three Mayors of the surrounding districts, and then the spot got invaded by skateboarders, never minding the high temperatures (Europe is sweating under a record heat wave). Tons of goodies were given away at our DIY stations (tee shirt screening, hat customising and button making…) and in no time, everyone was hyped to watch the action unfold. Dustin Dollin, David Gonzalez, Eniz Fazliov, Axel Cruysberghs, Victor Pellegrin, Vincent Coupeau and Romain Covolan from the Volcom skate team put down a demo matching the heat! At the end of the demo the list of ABD’s of the spot got quite filled up with notably a switch fs 360 and a switch flip from Axel over the trash bin, some trademark crails from David, an alley oop fs 270 heelflip from Eniz and a a double flip by Victor… Right after this some of Paris big dogs entered into the mix during a “Trick 4 Trick” session organised by Electric, where the skaters had to land the same tricks that Electric team skaters David Gonzalez and Sam Partaix were doing for cash. The day ended with music and drinks, but unfortunately without the planned live concert due to some tech problems, and the skateboarders took over the spot for a first of a long series of evening sessions. A big thank you to the city council of Paris for bringing this to skateboarding in Paris, Sterling Projects for such a rad design and finishing details, to Cosanostra skatepark, to Carlsberg for the refreshments, Snowbeach, Urban Surfers, Citadium, Hawaii Surf,Guillaume Perimony for the clip and Jelle Keppens for the photos. See you on Sunday July12th, starting at 19h for an instalment of photos from De Paris yearbook, music, refreshments and the screening of the video “Deuxième Vague”-  Entry is free. Lady Grouplove DIY

Our Lady Grouplove Collection has inspired us in so many ways to be creative and artistic. For this DIY, we reached inside ourselves to find our “artistic abilities” and used those creative juices to make these rad LGL inspired pots. Here’s what you need Spray Paint (we used white and black based on the collection) Multiple pots in different sizes Acrylic paint (white and black) Very small and thin paint brush This project is best done outdoors. Make sure you have a smooth surface to work on. Lay down some newspaper or anything lying around so as not to get spray paint on anything. To help get every inch of the pot evenly sprayed, place a brick or plank of wood down and place the pot on top. Spray the pot at least 10 inches away from the pot and lightly coat with color. You want even layers so as not to make drip marks on the pot. Once you’ve completed spray painting the outside of the pot, let it dry for a few minutes. Once dry, place the pot right side up on the table and spray paint the inside.  Set aside and let dry overnight. Start on your next pot. This time using black spray paint and repeat the steps before. Once all of your pots have dried, you can start the painting process! For this part, we went to volcom.com/ladygrouplove and looked at which pieces we wanted to recreate. Not every paint stroke was perfect, but we felt it added charm and once it was all finished it looked great! Our Tip:: Go slowly. Sometimes the paintbrush has a mind of its own, so if you want straight lines, take your time. The finished product! Shop the pieces that inspired this post! Lady Grouplove Events

Last weekend was full of excitement as we held two major events with Tilly's for our Lady Grouplove Collection! The first event was held at the Towne Center in Long Beach, CA on Saturday. Fans were standing in line since 2AM anxiously waiting to meet Grouplove and get their albums and t-shirts signed! The band members wore pieces from the Lady Grouplove Collection in support of the line & singer Hannah Hooper!  Kaitlin Meeder, a truly dedicated fan, was chosen to perform with the band and was moved to tears as she was living her dream!   At our second event, die hard fans fled to Irvine Spectrum in support of Volcom Womens & Grouplove to see the band perform as well as receive pieces from the line & signed albums! Once again, the band members wore pieces from the Lady Grouplove Collection and looked amazing doing so! Kaitlin made it back on the stage for the second event with more confidence than ever! The crowd went wild in support of their fellow fan. Photos by Chris Martinez. Featured items… Lady Grouplove Tee Lady Grouplove Denim Jacket Lady Grouplove Pants

2015 Volcom TCT Global Champs @ Lower Trestles - FINAL DAY Recap!
What a great day it was for the final day of the 2015 Totally Crustaceous Tour Global Champs down at Lower Trestles! Once again, we saw perfect 10-point rides, impressive surfing from all divisions across the board, and excellent wave and weather conditions. Photo: Vandyke The Pro-am division kicked things off with their Quarterfinal heats. Charly Quivront, Yago Dora, and Miguel Tudela all finished in the top spots securing their place in the Semifinals. Seth Moniz and Griffin Colapinto were also able to grab two mid-range scores to secure their Semifinal slots. Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom CareyPhoto: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey The Groms lit it up once again while standout, not just in the Grom division, but overall, Nick Marshall, dropped another 10-point ride with several impressive back-up scores. Tai was stoked for the grom! Photo: Tom Carey Girls Semifinals were stacked with an almost all United States draw. Throughout the event, Alyssa Spencer has been on fire and she proved once again why she deserved to be here, dominating her heat for Semi #1 while another in-form surfer, Caroline Marks grabbed her two high heat scores and prepared for the final. Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: KnightPhoto: Knight The Girls final included Alyssa Spencer (US), Camilla Kemp (PRT), Caroline Marks (US), and Kahanu Delovio (US). Right from the start, we knew it was going to be a close final with all Girls scoring great waves, but it was Caroline Marks who continued to show us what the level of Girls surfing has become, impressing the judges to total a heat score of 17.34 for the win. Photo: Knight Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey The Pro-am Semifinals saw excellent heat scores with 16 & 17-point heat totals by Miguel Tudela, Griffin Colapinto and Yago Dora. The finals were then set with Griffin Colapinto (US), Miguel Tudela (PER), Yago Dora (BRA), and Noah Schweizer (US). Photo: Knight Photo: Tom CareyPhoto: Knight Photo: Knight The Grom final was a nail-biting finish! A favorite going into the final was Nick Marshall, who between he and his brother (Jake Marshall), have been on fire the entire event. Brazil's Mateus Herdy was a definite force and held the first position, pushing Nick Marshall, Kade Matson, and Robert Grillho III to find some gems. It came down to the last few seconds when Nick grabbed a quick left with a solid air reverse, but came up just short, leaving Mateus to be crowned the 2015 Volcom TCT Global Champs Groms winner! Photo: Tom CareyPhoto: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Tom Carey  Photo: Tom Carey  Photo: Tom Carey The Squids final was electric with Jackson Bunch (HI) grabbing an early lead with two high heat scores and some solid confidence. Brayden Burch (US), Afonso Antunes (PRT), and Dane Matson (US) had close heat totals all between 10 and 11 points. Jackson Bunch held his ground and topped the other three competitors and was named the 2015 Volcom TCT Global Champs Squids Champion! Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: KnightPhoto: Tom Carey The Groms Semifinals had standout performances by Mateus Herdy and Kade Matson, while the Juniors continued to battle it out with another top performing heat by Jake Marshall with a near-perfect score of a 19.50. Photo: Knight Photo: KnightPhoto: Tom CareyPhoto: Knight Photo: Knight Photo: Tom Carey Junior finals saw Jake Marshall (US), Wil Reid (US), Harley-Ross Webster (AUS), and Nolan Rapoza (US). Three Americans and one lone Aussie held nothing back out in the Lowers lineup as they traded off wave-after-wave, eager to get a piece of that $30,000 prize. In the end, it was Nolan Rapoza who bagged an impressive heat total to be crowned the 2015 TCT Juniors Global Champ! Photo: Knight Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Sustainable Nate Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey Photo: Tom Carey The Pro-am final saw Miguel Tudela (PER), Noah Schweizer (US), Yago Dora (BRA), and Griffin Colapinto (US). While the wave conditions were improving, the sun was out, the beach was packed, and the 20 & Under men were ready for action! A stacked final indeed, and we were not disappointed. Yago excited the crowd grabbing 7s and 8s back-to-back towards the end of the heat, doing air reverse after air reverse. But Miguel battled back by getting one of the best waves of the final during the last few seconds of the heat and was awarded a 9.6 to take the win, edging out Yago by just a tenth of a point! As the sun began to rise in the early morning, the crew was down at the beach putting the finishing touches on the event site and was pleased to see the swell fill in just in time as the competitors free-surfed directly in front of the contest to warm up before their heats. The spectators began to fill the beach and everyone was setting up camp down at Lowers to prepare for the two-day battle from some of the hottest 20 & Under surfers from around the globe. The contest started at 8am sharp and right off the bat we saw the kids laying down huge turns and solid finishes, giving the judges some tough early morning heat decisions. On June 22 and 23, the final two days of the 15th annual event will culminate at the world-class wave, notoriously consistent in the summer months, young up-and-coming surfers from around the world will get the opportunity of a lifetime: to surf an empty and coveted line up while chasing $25,000 in cash and prizes. "At Volcom we believe it is important to have our major surfing events in world-class waves and we are thrilled to host the 2015 TCT Global Championships at Lower Trestles," said Brad Dougherty, Vice President of Volcom Surf. "This wave has a deep-rooted history of memorable surfing events and we are excited for the youth of the TCT to converge at one of the most rippable waves on earth for a shot at the Volcom 2015 TCT Global Championship title." Homegrown out of Volcom's backyard at Newport Beach’s 54th Street break, the Volcom TCT began as a fun, free and sometimes raucous event for the kids dating back to the mid-90s. While staying true to the character of TCT and continuing to Let the Kids Ride Free, the past two decades have seen this event grow organically into a full-scale international tour, giving young surfers of all ages and abilities an opportunity to get their feet wet in competitive surfing. This season, 250 surfers have qualified for the Volcom TCT Global Championships through regional tour stops, and international qualifiers including Brazil, Australia, Latin America, Japan, New Zealand, Europe, USA, Indonesia, South Africa, and Puerto Rico. Some of the best surfers in the world today, including current World Champion Gabriel Medina and World Tour surfers Nat Young, Kolohe Andino, Josh Kerr and Dusty Payne have competed on the Volcom TCT throughout their youth, and this season the event will display a new crop of up-and-comers climbing the ranks into their young professional careers. In addition to providing a major platform to showcase this exciting crew of young talent, moving the event forward into June now aligns it with two other prestigious amateur championships: the Surfing America USA Championships and the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) National Championships. These three back-to-back contests give the possibility for qualified competitors in all three championships, a chance to win a trifecta title. To top it off, the Volcom TCT Championship event at Trestles gives Volcom the incredible opportunity to partner with California State Parks on sustainability initiatives they stand behind, along with their philosophy to efficiently preserve and protect California’s natural resources.
