Sustainable Coastlines helps the Volcom Pipe Pro manage and measure our waste and recycling and is there to create active participation in beach clean ups and recycling education. KIDS GET ONE LAST SHOT TO QUALIFY FOR TCT GLOBAL CHAMPS IN JUNE!
This past weekend marked the end of the regular season contest series for Volcom Stones Totally Crustaceous Tour in US with the Starfish Surf Series, and boy was it a doozy. Fittingly so the final contest on the schedule this year took us back to were it all started in the home stomping ground of Newport Beach’s 54th St.. With Volcom being housed right up the street and the history this wave has with the TCT, the tours regular season could not be more appropriately capped off. Aryn Ferris. Surfs sooooo good. Style, don't forget style kids. The crew rolled into Surfside Sports right around the corner from Volcom’s HQ on Friday afternoon and got all setup for the pre-event signup party along with the crew from Wienerschnitzel providing free dawgs for the pack of frothing Grommies. The Groms packed in to Surfside’s parking lot to play some games, ride some skateboards, snag some swag from Volcom, Penny Skateboards, Rev’d Bar, and of course have some free fun from all! Not to mention while all this was going on we signed up about 100 competitors for the following mornings event that was filling up quickly! Huge thank you to Surfside Sports and Wienerschnitzel for a great Pre-Party! Saturday morning brought calm winds, super fun clean peaky waves at 54th, and a whole beach of fired up competitors chomping at the bit to get the event going. Everyone pitched in a hand to help our pumped up staff and next thing we knew the contest was up and running in no time. We sent the Juniors out first to test the waters and get eyes on what was in store for the rest of the day…a very high level of surfing and an event loaded with local and regional talent from all over the state. Everyone vying for those coveted final spots in this years Volcom TCT Champs at River Jetties and Lower Trestles in June. Larry Layback showing off the fins for the ladies! It was all fun and games until Mother Nature threw us a heater of a curve ball. California is not particularly know for its East Coast style, out of nowhere, violent squalls. This day proved to be different and we had some weather come in being pushed by very strong winds, not to fret though our talented staff and helpful bystanders we were able to batten down the hatches, keep the contest pushing, and the competitors did not let the weather phase them one bit, they just kept on ripping! If this doesn't just make you go awwwwwww...you have no soul. The Squids are the BEST! We moved right into the finals and the competitors just kept raising the bar with the advancing rounds. When the event was all said and done Cole McCaffay snagged a win in the crowd favorite squids divison. Keanu Igarashi took the title with a dominating performance in a huge Groms division that started with 10 heats in the morning. The girls division was impressive as usual with Tiare Thompson snagging the win in the finals and securing her spot in this years TCT Champs. Next up was the Juniors final where we saw Parker Cohn snag the win in a highly contested division. Last but not least we had the Pro-Am final where Matt Passaquindici took home the win in drifty choppy conditions that still provided some diamonds in the rough that not of these competitors let sneak by un-ridden, that was an action packed final! The little guys didn't seem to be affected by the windy conditions. Cole MacCaffay capping off the end section. Thank you once again Newport for being you and keeping us on our toes. Special thank you to Surfside Sports for providing us a great pre-event signup party and location and allowing us to have some fun with the Groms. Also a huge thank you to all the competitors and their families for coming out and making this Starfish Surf Series so special!! See you at Champs!!! Try and find the adult. I'll wait. Crazy Jeff and the frothiest Groms! Kevin Meza seemed to be in tune with the choppy conditions all day. Peter Piper and his loyal followers. Jack Boyes has a progressive bag of tricks. Fears no wind squall. Groms learning how to lay the wood! Said it before and will say it again. A good bottom turn is the key to it all. Games!? I Love games!! Jeff Richardson and the game squad. The little bowls at 54th St. still had some powerful little corners on them. Matt Passaquindici on a fin free ride to a first place final. She's a looker, these Volcom TCT Starfish Surf Series events. Full commitment and complete disregard for fin systems. The weather may not have been anything to write home about come end of the day, but Matt Passaquindici's performance sure was. Smiling. Happy. All these kids walked away with goodies from PENNY SKATEBOARD, KICKER, OAM and many more! Special Thanks Goes Out To Our Product Sponsors: NEW ERA CAP REV'D WIENERSCHNITZEL PENNY SKATEBOARDS SURFING MAGAZINE KICKER GOPRO FUTURE FINS WATERMANS SUNSCREEN ON A MISSION Winning and locking down his spot in the champs, Matt Passaquindici! Ed Templeton, Deth P Sun, and Koozies
Ed Templeton's "Synthetic Suburbia" solo show opens tonight (6-8pm) at the Roberts & Tilton Gallery | 5801 Washington Boulevard Culver City, CA. If you can't make it to the opening tonight, don't worry; the show runs through May 30th, so there's plenty of time to get injected with Ed's awesomeness. If you're on the other side of the US, I'd highly recommend checking out Deth P Sun's new exhibit, "Being & Nothingness," which also opens this evening (7pm) at Grumpy Bert in Brooklyn. If you don't feel like reading their address on the image above, you can read it right here: 82 Bond St, Brooklyn, NY. Or… if you live in our around Austin, TX, (like I do) you should check out the Koozie Show tonight at Common House. Tons of rad custom-made koozies—all $30 cash and carry. The gallery opens at 6pm and the buying starts at 8. Art, beer, and koozies? Can't go wrong. If you're unable to attend any of these events, I hope you at least see one piece of art this weekend. If that's not possible, please make a piece of art and show it to somebody.

Peanut Butter And Rail Jam Championships - Mammoth Mountain, CA 2015
Volcom’s Global Peanut Butter And Rail Jam Championships introduced a mainline of youth that will one day rule the snowboard world on Saturday April 18, 2015 at Mammoth Mountain, CA. Competitors gathered around for a riders meeting and a group photo before the festivities began. The PBRJ tour has once again hit a milestone as it celebrates its 15th year of letting the kids ride free.  This heavily contested event showcases the best rail riders on the planet as they converge and test their skills against one another. The Mammoth Mountain Unbound crew did a fantastic job of creating options that tested both the mental and physical skills of each rider once again.  Their take on a 3-zone set up consisted of a 25 stair set with a concrete creeper down-flat-down ledge, a massive wallride, a creeper rail, a down rail, and a triple drop concrete ledge in zone 1. Zone 2 housed a quadruple kink rail. A 20 stair down rail with donkey on one side with a creeper flat down rail and a metal skate pyramid to chest high down square tube in zone 3.  The slew of incredibly trickable features allowed everyone the options they needed to showcase their skills.  There was a mind-melting amount of hard way, switch, and gap tricks that were hard to comprehend yet kept the crowd cheering for more.  These riders had to dig deep to see who would end the day with their part of the $17,000 cash purse and the title of 2015 Global PBRJ Champion!  Cooper Whittier was a crowd favorite the entire day. He was riding with such insane prowess and smiling the entire time. Here he blasts a floated bs lipslide from the metal skate pyramid on the backside of this rail in zone 3. It was one of our favorite tricks we saw all day long. Drayden Gardner locks into a fs 180 sw 50-50 sw bs 360 out on the sizeable 25 stair set in zone 1. He had no shortage of technicality throughout as he captured 3rd place in the 15 & Under Division. Judd Henkes musters up the strength to fs 180 sw 50-50 sw bs 360 out of this neck high rail, at least to him, in zone 3. Judd continued to impress with smooth unforced style in all zones to become the 2015 Peanut Butter and Rail Jam Champion in the 15 & Under Division. Zach Zajac centers out this cab 270 fs boardslide in zone 1. His no holds barred ripping pushed him into 3rd place in the 16 – 21 Division. Eli Lamm sending a gap fs boardslide in zone 3 that nearly destroyed him on his first attempt. We gave him “Dancing With The Devil”  award for staying in one piece. Garrett McKenzie flexed this tail press to the end of the quad kink and finishes with a fs 360 out in zone 2. He also landed a notable bs 360 50-50 fs 180 out on the long 25 stair rail in zone 1. Jake Colman left an impression on the judges with this gap hw 270 bs lip to the last down of the quad kink in zone 2. The East Coast powerhouse continued to dominate in all 3 zones in order to claim global PBRJ victory in the 16 – 21 Division. Ivika Jürgenson settles into a fs 180 switch nose press down the 25 stair set in zone 1. She battled the other features a little bit but in the end pulled through with a solid performance no doubt. Volcom’s Elena Hight was hyped to see Missy McAlpin’s no comply bs boardslide through the quad kink in zone 2. Missy earned the “Wild Style” award after landing it before time ran out. Mariah Dugan takes the path less traveled as she hits the creeper rail in zone 3 with a 50-50 bs 180 out. She also hit the zone 1 creeper rail with a bs 50-50 fs 360 out and the zone 2 quad kink rail with a massive gap lipslide to solidify the top stop in the Girls Division. Pizza, Cookies, Rev'd Bars, and PB+J's provided smiles and good times for all. The kids went nuts as they sounded the horns and splashed through the natural pond skim during lunch! Buzz Holbrook fired off this method lipslide to the last down of the quad kink and gap bs 450’d to fs board too. He was rocking and rolling throughout the finals to receive a brand new Fender Stratocaster for his efforts. Jed Sky landed a plethora of tricks throughout the day including this perfect sw bs lipslide on the tall square tube in zone 3, a half cab nose press bs 360 out on the quad kink in zone 2, and a hw fs 360 bs 50-50 gapped to the 3rd drop of the concrete waterfall ledge in zone 1. Samm Neumann hits the Electric California pommel horse feature with a bs 180 sw 50-50 sw bs 270 in to collect the $1000 bounty of “Gooyest Move of the Event.” Mike Skiba shows proper form on this hw 270 bs lipslide to regular on the down rail in zone 2. Mike knows that the little things standout and the judges took notice of his exit. Jed Sky landed a plethora of tricks throughout the day including this perfect sw bs lipslide on the tall square tube in zone 3, a half cab nose press bs 360 out on the quad kink in zone 2, and a hw fs 360 bs 50-50 gapped to the 3 drop of the concrete waterfall ledge in zone 1. Matt Shaffer has a knack for doing the unfathomable when it comes to spinning into rails. Here he gaps a fakie fs 270 boardslide to the last portion of the quad kink in zone 2. 16-Year-Old Benny Milam entered the Open/AM Division to challenge himself and see what he could do riding against the big dogs. He must have out grown his kennel early proving to be top dog with tricks like this sw bs 270 boardslide to regular in zone 1. It’s rare you get to be a Global Champion and get your driver’s license in the same year. Congratulations on a job well done Benny! Big thanks to Mammoth Mountain for hosting the PBRJ for the past 15 years!  Shout out to TJ and Molly Dawoud, Matt Rowan, Tyson Kaylor, Adam Riffle, Nick Scholes, Jason Rafuse and Caroline Casey for all of their help from A to Z.  A nod of the cap to Matt Ryan, Dylan Trewin, Elena Hight, Brock Crouch, Matt Robinson, and Johnny Brady for penciling in the scores.  Thanks to the one of a kind hype man Trevor Brady for supporting on the microphone.  Much respect to Daniel Terry, Jeff Arnold, Oren Tanzer, Teasha Borg, Chris Martinez, Jeff Kabigting, Sam King, Anthony Conrad, Chris Sumpter, Hope Lane, and Traci Heaton for helping throughout the big event.  Thanks to our Volcom team riders Elena Hight, Dan Brisse, Mike Rav, Seth Huot, Zach Normandin, Brock Crouch, Scott Blum, Alex Lopez, and Jake Soliver for hyping everyone up with their presence.  Finally, check out the awesome sponsors that we had the pleasure of working with throughout the 2015 PBRJ tour.
