Want to spice up an old white pair of socks or t-shirt with a natural tie-dye? We got you covered with our turmeric tie-dye how-to. Follow a few easy steps to get a tie-dye that is made with a household kitchen essential that is probably in your spice drawer.

Materials:

  • White Socks and/or white shirt
  • 4 tablespoons of Turmeric
  • Rubberbands
  • Large Pot

  • Soak your socks and t-shirt in a bowl of cold water.

  • Ring out the water after you have fully soaked your socks and t-shirt.

  • Fold or spiral your socks and shirt then use your rubber bands to tightly wrap around to create a design.

  • Add 3-4 tablespoons of turmeric to a large pot filled with water.

  • Let your pot simmer for 30 minutes.

  • Add in your socks and shirt.

  • Let them soak for 30 minutes to an hour (or until satisfied with the color) while stirring it with a plastic utensil (wooden utensils will stain) every 15 minutes.

  • Once you are satisfied with the color, take them out of the pot and rinse them with cold water until the water runs clear.

  • Ring out the socks and shirt, and take off the rubber bands.
